I am on a Telstra pre-paid plan.

I was in China in October and was unable to get any reception in Shenzhen or Guangzhou. Once I returned to Hong Kong it was fine again.

This year I travelled to Indonesia, Singapore, Vietnam, Hong Kong and China. All went well until I reached Shenzhen, just over the border from Hong Kong, in China. My husband is with Virgin and he connected automatically in China through China Unicom. My phone was trying to connect to CSL and intermittently I was able to see either no bars or emergency numbers only. I figure that my phone was still trying to connect to CSL in Hong Kong. I tried to connect to China Unicom but a message said that my sim card cannot connect to China Unicom.

I rang the Telstra emergency number and suddenly four bars popped up. The operator assured me that there was no problem. Then I hung up and the reception disappeared soon afterwards.

When I got home, I rang Telstra and spoke to three people who all had different answers.

Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a solution?
