What an absolutely fantastic event!

I spent the morning battling the scars from overindulgence the night before, but I had an awesome day regardless... [Note to self, don't drink the night before 9am starts :p ]

The day ran like clockwork. We tasted some excellent wine, enjoyed a lovely lunch, and spent the whole day in good company. Rockford was a special treat for me, especially the Basket Press vertical tasting which was the highlight. It was very special to be able to taste some of those wines and even more special that we had the opportunity to purchase wine not available to the general public.

A huge thanks to Buzzard for organising the event and sharing his "allocation" at Rockford! The boarding passes were also a nice touch. Thanks also to Frank, our driver, who ensured safe transport to each location and back to the city. I was rather touched by your generosity Buzz, so a big thank you from me for that :)

As usual, it was lovely to meet some new faces and catch up with old friends. See you at the next event!

.....Excellent opportunity to pick up some unavailable to the public wine, at winery cost as well.

.......Fantastic day. Thank you very much to Buzz for the idea, for organising and for being so generous in making special allocations of wine available to us wine-plebs.

Could not have said it better myself Medhead & Anna... Thanks Buzz for such generosity today and sharing the Rockfords Stonewall Room experience with us all and allowing us to purchase such "rare" wines from your personal quota...

A true Masterpiece and well orchestrated event, and a highly valued member of AFF IMO

Well done Buzzard...!

A big thank you to everybody that attended this event especially those who travelled from interstate just to come along.

It was YOU, all the guests that made the day such a pleasure. Not much fun if nobody turns up.

Mrs B and I are already thinking about the next one, checking out a few websites for something a bit special.

Still envious of those able to go to the event. I did crack a 2000 Basket Press Shiraz at my friend's 50th yesterday in sympathy. (And he thought HE was going to get it as a gift. Ha!)

Any chance of description of the wines tasted, comments etc and the 'Stonewaller' booty taken away?

I have a bottle of something special to celebrate LTG soon, which dates almost from the time I became a QFF member ;)

I'm not that good at describing wine.

We did however get to taste 1998 Basket Press against the 2010 which was quite interesting.

As to the booty taken, it was certainly more than my allocation - I had to "phone a friend"

I took a mixed dozen consisting of Alicante, Basket Press, Black Shiraz, Moppa Springs and there is now also a sticky which is not mentioned in the Rockford Rag nor is it on the order form.

If you would like me to post you a copy of the Rockford Rag that contains details of the current vintage just send me a PM.

Here's my purchases for the day: -

Grant Burge
SHIRAZ CABERNET NV (SPARKLING SHIRAZ) x 2

Charles Melton
2013 DISGORGED BRUT PECHE (SPARKLING ROSE) x 2
2010 NINE POPES GSM x 1

Rockford's
2013 ALICANTE BOUCHET x 2
2012 FRUGAL FARMER x 1
2010 BASKET PRESS SHIRAZ x 1
20?? BLACK SHIRAZ (SPARKLING SHIRAZ) x 2

YUM...!

Thanks, no need - I have it (its also on their web site BTW).

I was on the web site last week and noticed that the 2010 BP is still available there, so I put in an order for another half case. Was logged in, order taken on line OK.

... but a polite e-mail a bit later saying sorry, I had already taken my allocation of half a case this year, so no more :( Geez, they are tough.

I picked up as follows:

Grant Burge
1x Sparkling Shiraz

We also tried a very good sparkling here call Helene. I thought it was well up to French standards, with a price to match at $50 Helene Grande Cuvee « Grant Burge Wines Pty Ltd

Charles Melton
2x Le Belle Miere (reliably informed this is the mother in law)
1X Sparkling Red

One interesting red at Charles Melton was the one that was supposed to have a hint of lemon (the lemon definitely walked through of stilts). I can't remember which one, maybe the nine popes or a cab sav.

Rockford
1x 2010 basket press (I think this is available to the general public)
2x the sticky semillion (stonewall special)
3x Black Shiraz (also stonewallers only)

The 1998/2010 basket press tasting was a highlight.

Tough they are. Even though I had another membership number with me, they insisted on speaking to the person to confirm my access to their allocation. It did work out well in the end. :p

Thanks for organising a great day Buzz, my boarding pass will be treasured forever!

I tasted 22 different wines, and had to try a couple twice, just so that I could be sure ;).

The orange cake with cream was great too, once I got it!

And thanks to everyone who participated, a great bunch of people.

Next time we go there Buzz I think I should Invest in a couple of hand grenades ;)

Edit, perhaps even grab a few from down the road too while we're in the area...

Yes I have consumed many in J, I informed Grant Burge that our group is very good for their business as most of us are aiming for the pointy end of the plane when travelling, which in turn means more sales for them...!

They informed me that these "grenades" were specifically designed for Qantas, not sure it that's a fact or not though.
