Rockfords discussion

Based on a range of factors, time is certainly one of them, but also purchasing history and that relates to not just how much you buy but what you buy, so perhaps not always the same ;)
True but being based in Melbourne limits the availability - BP, RR

I will check on the journey

My unofficial understanding is it's also a bit of a one out, one in club.
How does one get out of the club? is there a membership fee? or no purchase no club?

My understanding is it takes 5 years to become a Swer?

Besides the factors that others have mentioned (eg purchasing), "engagement" has been mentioned directly at Rockford when the question has been asked directly - as in, attend the winery, events etc (and be seen there)

The 'one in one out' factor isn't one-to-one but rather related to the volume ordered by SWers. There was a spurt of new stonewallers made from abt 5 years ago, from memory. Because, we were told, original stonewallers were buying less, as they got older 'matured' (or pegged it) , so there was more to go around. And I can attest to that - I buy a lot less now than 10 years ago; but as much as I tried, I couldn't stop @Daver6 getting a share of it.

And yes, apparently, you can bequeath your SW membership when you die!

Not to mention they're continually increasing their production so there's more to go round.

I heard that RR was going to be released in November.

Ive only been a member for a few months but have been regularly purchasing a range of their wines (R&S, WF, MS)

Can't comment sorry. I signed up to mailing list in early-mid 90s and became a Stonewaller straight up when it was conceived in 2000.

How so? I'm based in Brisbane. The further you are away doesn't I think make a difference?
I was told by Rockford on the phone that BP & RR is only available online to Swers unless you travel to the winery. They did mention that RR may be released online only if there is enough stock

I misread what you were saying, but that is true.

Maybe someone could clarify exactly, but they operate on a tiered membership. So, anyone can visit the winery and depending on the month pickup something. If you're on the mailing list (Bud Burst) I think you initially start out with the ability to purchase the premium stuff around March, roughly 6 months after the wines have been released. At some point you hit the second level of Bud Burst and get an allocation of 3 bottles of some of the premium wines at the release date in roughly October. Finally, if you're a SW you get access to 6 bottles at release date plus the Grenache. That was my journey at least. YMMV.

Some good points there.
I've also reduced the amount I purchase, no point leaving it as part of my estate.
This vintage I don't intend buying any BS or BP. I might just take some Alicante and Frugal Farmer.

I assume by RR you mean the Rifle Range cab? I was always under the impression that was available to the general public? At least it was before I became a Stonewall Society member. It was just the BP and Black Shiraz being the two main wines limited to online ordering in Oct to members (plus cellar door specials).

Possibly due to demand this has changed?

Serrat, Rockford, Mount Mary, Standish, Wendouree, Mosswood and Giaconda are the mailing lists I subscribe to every vintage in no particular order. And I agree that I need to cut back the purchases as it is more than I can consume in a year, as well as obviously wanting to drink other wines.

Rockford and Moss Wood I completely agree with you. I'm hoping to be more financial from next year (down to 1 child getting a private school education) and ramping up my purchases before I lose the ability to use my olfactory and gustatory senses
