just hoping they don't extend it by another day as we are leaving SYD INT on the 8th

just hoping they don't extend it by another day as we are leaving SYD INT on the 8th

Same here albeit a few more days out

And we are leaving from MEL on the 5th :(

Anyone know what effect these strikes usually have? Will they still run an express queue?

It's all very well for them to say "leave for the airport even earlier" but if QF won't accept your bags more than 3 hours ahead of the flight there's a limit to how early you can get there.

To my understanding they are striking for more pay, in my circle of business associates (all private sector) not one of them has had a pay rise in 2 years due to the economic downtown.

If Ii took the action they are, I would be down the social security office within 10 minutes.

We're flying April 7th, 11am flight. I wish SQ opened their check-in earlier than 3hrs just so I can be tucked away in the lounge and not stressing.

If they striked one day per month would be annoying but 9 days in a row is not going to make them friends with the majority.

I passed through international departures in SYD about 30 minutes ago. The queues were not any longer than usual, and I was processed very quickly through one of the Smart Gate machines. I wouldn't honestly be too worried about this.

Does anyone know what the government has done to try and resolve this?

A conference in the Maldives to formulate a paper to discuss?

Followed by a departmental inquiry that will recommend a full senate inquiry. By which time , Border Force will no longer exist as they have become " The Thin Black Line " who wander airports issuing fines for excess luggage and queue jumping.

The captain on QF20 MNL-SYD arriving yesterday mornin made an announcement prior to landing there could be lengthy delays with customs and immigration due to strike action. I guess we were lucky we missed it by a day.

Fingers crossed it wraps up on the 7th. Flying out of MEL on the 8th.

I'm wrapped. Sounds like I'll get to sleep in and then partake in a casual breakie at H-CNS. You bloody beaut!

Just passed through MEL @ 1645 this afternoon, for EK405 departure @ 1900. Much earlier than I normally would arrive for this flight, and there were no - as in zero- queues at immigration, other than in APEC and express lanes! Security was being very thorough - this seemed to be the biggest hold up (as in MEL security comes before immigration) but I had express pass which sped things up a bit.

Really unconscionable behaviour making the travelling public pay for their grievances, these are the old left wing tactics of long ago and simply don't work anymore.

As we stood in the very long queue in PER late last year after 3 int. flights arrived (great timing) to be greeted with this no show go slow fiasco, the elderly having to stand so long, one guy with leg in plaster on crutches, they did not give a stuff about us and those in line were livid and with not once ounce of sympathy for these ....

Where are the delays? I haven'y read of any, yet.
