Hi.
Any one flown Royal Brunei Business Melb/Lon. lately and can give an update on service etc. and which lounges they are using, plus any restrictions and how to overcome them!

They are a dry airline for one. I am pretty sure you are able to BYO Duty Free alcohol, and they will serve it for you.

Yes you can BYO Alcohol on board.
Not sure what class you're travelling, but J are pretty much like domestic J seats with a slightly better recline. Lounge access at Brunei for Business class only (and very small lounge and ok food, but again no alcohol) and I am pretty sure in London it's the Qantas Lounge in T3 (again only for Business)
Brunei airport is pretty poor...nothing to do and fairly dirty

i flew on them last sept on the 772 in business. They have the angled beds. they have older planes from singapore airlines so they have the 1st generation of angled beds.
You can take duty free grog on but can't buy any on board. The staff on all the flights i took were great. Friendly good service. Used my name to address me and came and spoke to the pax individually about flight times and meals and anything relevant to the flight. The cabin has a really open feel to it. The seats are much better than Qantas domestic J seats.

My wife and I flew RBA business class, and I do recommend it. The planes are 777-200ER's, SIA's on a dry lease and are therefore very good. The FA's are excellent and are very helpful. The seats are good and are 170 degree flat seats so you can get some seats. I cannot fault the business lounge at Brunei, very clean, great showers, but be advised it is a very small airport. You can take a trip out of the airport if you are transiting long enough. RBA use the United Airlines lounge in Mel, and the Etihad lounge at Heathrow.
RBA have four Dreamliners on order, and are looking to make Brunei a hub airport in the Kangaroo route battle.
The Dry airline may be an issue with some people, but to quote a noted Flight Surgeon with the RAF:
"The presence of alcohol in the blood interferes with the normal use of oxygen by the tissues (histotoxic hypoxia). Because of reduced pressure at high altitudes and the reduced ability of the hemoglobin to absorb oxygen, the effect of alcohol in the blood, during flight at high altitudes, is much more pronounced than at sea level. The effects of one drink are magnified 2 to 3 times over the effects the same drink would have at sea level."
So don't drink in planes you get drunk quicker.

Ok so I buy a whiskey in Sydney enroute to Europe. What happens if I need to rescan in Brunei?

i took time out in brunei to smell the roses fora feed days so i can't be sure but i didn't see any tell tale tables with bottles of water on them.

That is the question.. I'm sure I recall it being confiscated at BWN last time I transited there.. Am I correct? Or was it just a figment of my imagination. . (BTW.. I wasn't carrying any grog, just an observation)

As for my experiences on RBA, quite adequate, not the most up to date hardware, but clean & always lovely service - catering is a bit iffy, J lounge in BWN, spacious, but food is a let down.. Usually take a ride into town @ BWN for fresh air & decent offerings..

Overall an adequate experience in J for the price..
