RTW to no-where in particular

Thank you for the very detailed trip report, timely as I might be going to NY towards the end of the year (assuming the world is still here by then). Malta has been added to the list as well now!

@RooFlyer nice report, I was particularly interested NYC part as we were due to be there in a little over 2 weeks and your report gave me some ideas, but our trip is not happening now. I am a big fan of NYC I have had the opportunity to visit a few times both with the family and work trips. Although I think I have seen most of it each TR that is posted and includes NYC or NY state there is always seems something that we have previously missed. We (speaking for MrsM as well) are big fans of of the NE US and CA.

It is unfortunate that you had to drop off Japan as I am sure you would have found places that we would have had to visit in the future and like NY every time someone posts a TR on Japan I feel like I have missed something.

I look forward to your next report.

Thanks Matt ... When I visited NYC in 2018, for the first time in many years (probably the 1990s when I visited for work), I didn't think there would be much 'new' for me to see, so I only planned 2 days there - one for recovery from the flight from Oz, and a day to mooch around. For the walk around, I actually did a couple of places from one of your TRs, IIRC, and amaroo.

What's the story with Himeji? I'm curious

Its main attraction to me is that its one of the 'originals', not re-built 'recently'. Its just that I've planned to visit it the last 3 times when in Japan, and thwarted each time. First time I got a cold and didn't feel like the trip from Tokyo, second time it was 'Golden Week' and I couldn't face the queues, and now the virus!

Now I'm determined. Matsumo might be an alternative, or addition. :)

Next time!
It is most certainly worth it.

As mentioned in my last TR, there are 12 original castles left. My goal is to visit them all one day....only managed Himeji, Matsumoto and Hikone so far  long way to go!

I like your style, I have been to JP with mates just to visit castles and attend sword and or armour exhibitions. The annual (main) sword festival in late Nov is a good 4 day trip if you are that way inclined. The nihonto, tsuba, koshirae and the other small parts collectors are all different.
