[Rumor from QF CSAs] Qantas to bring back online mASA's?

Regarding the MASA issue I would imagine Qantas are didn't expect this level of trouble re the issue. Whoever was ultimately in charge of the removal has IMO messed up big time and will probably not get a chocolate santa for Chrissy! All they really had to to was reduce the number of classic points ASA availability over time .... a slow painful death ..... but maybe better than this 'Dead Cat Bounce' we are in now.

There were a number of ways in which this could have been done much better ............. but I guess .... you just can't get the staff!

Being a Qantas fan I find it all quite sad. Keeping fingers crossed (and legs) that they come back online soon!

EH

So apparently the brief outage wasn't to bring MASAs back online.

Nor was it to fix the bug where when trying to book from Singapore to Tokyo with flexible dates, the calendar shows numerous options, but selecting one and hitting "Continue" just causes the calendar to reload.

Nor was it to fix the bug where when trying to book from Singapore to Taipei with flexible dates, the calendar shows numerous options in three different classes, but only Economy options on Jetstar Asia are displayed after hitting "Continue".

"Smart, simple & fast." Or something.

Apart from this ridiculous ASA removal (enhancement) its not being informed if and when they will return that is so frustrating. If I removed a good service that worked so well from my web site there would be hell to pay.

Just out of interest how many of these bookings are being processed via call centre? From memory JessicaTam posted recently trying to book one of these via call centre and that was the first booking that person had done. Didnt these get taken offline in June?

I wonder if the person who broke the news on AFF has any further information they would willing to share?

JohnK, I'd suggest ASA's have dropped like a stone as its complicated unless one finds an operator who knows the ropes or have checked out the sticky on AFF.

hi all... just called the number for a (M)JASA quote and was quite surprised with the agent. she was really helpful and understood why i didnt want the classic award (no points and s/c).

FYI - flight was QF63 SYD-JNB 8 July 2014 84,000 points+$450 in U class, compared to the Classic award online at 84,000 points + $341. not bad value at all.

They have always been available to book via the call centre, even in the years before the removal of the function to book the MASA's online. I think it kind of shows just how popular they were...

I booked one this morning, my 2nd one ever :). Rang the premium line to ask for an ASA in U and got a nice woman called Rebecca who had not done one before but knew that she needed to refer to the "new work flow" instructions. She was very apologetic that I got put on hold a couple of times while she spoke to her supervisor about what to do next. It took about 10 mins but I ended up with a mASA in J at the classic points level + $109 which I was very happy with. Not bad at all for Boxing Day, I was surprised they had any award availability left let alone mASA in U.

If they wanted to phase them out then the backlash has made that harder ironically, now there is pressure on to put them back online. Good.

Going on past month its still a hit and miss affair, but a hell of a lot easier to do online.

Why on earth would anyone think that the QF website outage today was to bring mASA's back online is beyond me!

QF clearly said that mASA's will be reviewed in 3 months

They were NOT built into the "new website" and will be reviewed in 3 months from the "new website" launch date

I still expect them to disappear

We are allowed to hope ( :) ) its called positive thinking, you should try it! As for Qantas saying they will be reviewed in 3 months, not sure where you get your info from but there has been no time frame given officially!

That is not what I meant. Since they were taken offline they have been difficult to book via call centre.

Do we actually know how popular they were? Popularity in AFF fantasy world is not indicative of popularity in real life.

P.S The silence by QF on the matter is deafening. Would love to know how their review is progressing.

Right, so QF would be taking down a website during the day to introduce something.....

There has been an official time frame given (3 months from the new website launch) and it was discussed extensively in that thread you went very quiet in after boasting about many JASA bookings

At no time frame has been given by Qantas officially, in fact on the call we asked and they said no time frame. Not surprising given they seem to have time frames that drift, as was the case with the removal and also the move from T2.

Its more than likely they will go, whether its 3 months or 6 months so take advantage while you can, but we could also get a surprise, only QF loyalty know the direction we are headed.

I am sure there was a 3 month time frame mentioned. I cannot find the reference, but I will keep looking. I have had the end of September in my head as the deadline for mASA bookings since the website change.

It was mentioned by the op of the thread who was speaking unofficially, same OP has been spot on with what's happening, just not when.

The "marginal ASA" as they like to call it is here to soften the blow when they will be removed completely in around 3 months time. After this date the P U Z X inventory will be used exclusively for classic awards. You will still have the option of using points to pay for fares based on normal commercial inventory. So my final advice is if you need to book the marginal seats, search for the classic award first then once you have the flights phone up ask it to be booked as "marginal ASA" but please note as already noted by other posters the rates for part cash has gone up quite a lot from today. This will stay in place for about 3 months then they will be gone forever - well that's the info I have today. It could change.

There was a 3 month time-frame mentioned by QF somewhere
