Rumour: Joyce going; Gail Kelly coming

As rumours go, it's not a bad one.

I do tend to agree. It's got just enough credibility to seem reasonable without being over the top.

- Gail Kelly has a pretty good reputation at the head of a big 4 bank and seems respected by most as a leader, and she's just come out of that role (true I haven't researched if she's already accepted another role that is know of or not)
- Joyce is well... disliked by most and responsible in some ways, for a real lack of morale amongst the troops (either real or imagined)
- QF has, seemingly (at this point) hit rock bottom with cuts(announced), the big losses and has started to turn the coner

so, Joyce could exit with the spin that he's seen QF through this period of transformation and the hard times, and delivers it to a new, respected leader, in far better shape (blah blah blah) for her to carry on with into a bright red future of 787's, profits and winning back domestic market share rah rah rah

if you were the QF board, you could do worse in such a scenario in terms of that the "old bad" management would be seen to be swept clean, a new start with a promised return to profitability.

It's been done at several US airlines and will happen again no doubt.

so yeah, I see how this rumour definitely meets at least a reasonable sanity test.

IMHO

Well I know Ms Kelly flies with QF. We were on the same flight last week SYD-BNE and it was a bit of a shocker...turbulence prevented service for at least half of the flight. The crew did well in the short time they had.

FWIW, I'm with the 'wishful thinking' camp and expect we'll see AJ at the helm for a bit longer yet.

I agree, board roles is more likely. Having some with large scale customer service experience would be useful in the board.
