I'll take his club lounge pass since he won't be using it ;)

I wonder if Rus is a thong man.... I can see him being kicked out of the Qantas lounge because of their dress code. When Rus looks good, hes damned fine but when hes not, he looks like a suburbanite grandad in trackies.

I'd love to see him get kicked out of the QP and blame it on QF for "not telling me at the time of booking my ticket". Though I'd imagine a name like Russell Crowe would have CL access and it would surprise me if they had an enforced dress code there.

I was flying back from LAX last year on NZ1 and I asked one of the (very awesome) crew about Russell Crowe and the fact that he is typically identified as Australian.

The staffer stated that they were distressed that I knew that he was actually a New Zealander and that they don't talk about such offensive things in public.

Glad to hear that public safety won out over an entitled passenger trying to carry on a risky item.

Also, for the record:

People need to stop calling those two wheeled death machines "hoverboards"...

Im not a Russell hater but his current tweets just make me want to tell him to take his head out of his cough and STFU and let it go. . What a cough.

I previously thought he copped it a bit too much from the media but seeing how he keeps bleating about the bloody hoverboard makes me now sort of pleased he doesn't have Aussie citizenship, because it now means we can deport him!

Wow. Just went and took a look, and he's starting to sound like a crazy person...

To be fair, I do think airlines have some responsibility to let their customers know if since a booking was made, an item can't be brought onboard. In this case, perhaps he made the booking pre-Christmas, gave the gifts over Christmas and for some reason had a media-blackout on the fires they cause and the growing list of airlines buying them. It's not unreasonable for him to expect the airline he holds a ticket with to send him (and every other passenger holding a ticket) an email noting the new policy on a board that doesn't even hover and is clearly misnamed. Think of how much drama that would save at the airport for families arriving with them who now have to dispose of them.

To be honest, I don't think it's unreasonable for at least some of the onus to be on passengers to check whether something such as these Segway boards are permitted to be taken on board, especially given the widespread publicity about them. You'd have to have been living under a rock to not have heard at least SOMETHING about an increasing number of airlines banning these things as either carry-on or check-in luggage since at least early December and/or the safety concerns surrounding the boards and the accidents/incidents involving them. With so many stories and reports online, in the newspapers, on TV, social media etc, wouldn't you at least take it on yourself (or get your PA to do it LOL) to check whether the airline you were going to be travelling on allowed them on board??

I must have been living under a rock then. Because, despite my quite keen interest in travel - it was news to me.

I've an interest in travel but no interest at all in hover boards.

Maybe, if it's an issue for travel, an airline should put it up on their main web pages?

That would have done it for me! At least for the airlines I've recently travelled on.

Well anybody who is not aware that there are capacity sizes in relation to batteries for whatever their purpose is clearly been living under a rock! And of course RC is such an infrequent traveller to boot.

Ignorance of laws in not a defense in any jurisdiction on this planet - he is allegedly a grown up so grow up I say.

  1. I have been under that same or another rock.
  2. Likewise
  3. VA did explain that is was printed in his T&C. It's not practical to post everything on the web site as the IATA DG manual is approx 1.5in thick with tissue thick pages.
  4. The good thing out of this is that everyone now knows about Lithium Batteries.

I didn't even know a hover board had a battery. Oh that rock is heavy.

I didn't know? Try that excuse next time you are pulled up boarding - then empty out what does not comply - board - it ain't complicated.

It would have been ideal if the social media team at Virgin Australia followed up their reply with "We are happily taking responsibility - for keeping yourself, your family and all our other passengers safe." or a statement of similar meaning.

The churlish behaviour on display here by someone claiming to be an adult and businessperson is quite sad really.
