Visit Google? It is only an hour by train and then you can Uber. Might be a bit too long though with your amount of time. You won't be able to get inside, but there is a fair bit to look at walking around the grounds. A Tyrannosaurus rex and models of all the operating system names. On the plus side the Bay Area is generally less windy and warmer than SFO.

If you are riding on the cable car, getting on it at the union square stop is often quicker than going to the terminus. They leave spare spots, so they can still take on passengers at the other stops. Might not be an issue in winter with less tourists.

If the weather is ok go for a walk and visit the Painted Ladies, 710–720 Steiner Street, across from Alamo Square Park. Fabulous architecture. Ghirardelli Square is the old Chocolate Factory, worth a look, and definitely Pier 39 for the seals. We flew into SFO, then caught the train to Union Square, easy transport.

We did Alcatraz as twilight/night and I really liked it

I was also going to mention the Painted Ladies, if photography is your thing. We took a picnic dinner from something like subway and once all the skaters & hipsters on tinder left (it was interesting people watching), the park was quite and hubby took his skyline photos with the Painted Ladies in the foreground. Uber was super easy to get back to our hotel.

We wandered over the to Cable car museum, very tiny but interesting to see the guts of the cable lines in action.

We also went to the Lucas office at Presido to find the Yoda fountain and then wandered around the gardens/monuments.

Oh and to Muir Woods and Haight Street because hubby is a flower child in a past life.
