PJs are supplied on QF27 & 28.

They don't close the blinds IME.

@juddles do you know if the QF27 and 28 supply PJs because they are both daytime flights. Do they tend to close the blinds and want you to go to sleep.

I'm actually booked with LA flight numbers but on Qantas metal and can't select seats and even Qantas Premium said there is nothing that I can do about it

Yes, on both they do close it up and turn it essentially into an "overnight" flight - which it is really anyway on QF28 :) Unless they have dramatically changed something in the past few months, they always give PJ's in J.

As for seat selection, they told you the truth - for years I have complained about that, but it is a system issued too great to change. Even if by some chance you do see a seat allocation for you (when travelling on LA tickets), these mean absolutely nothing. You will not know until checkin what seat you have :/ (for the record I have even been "helped" by the P1 team who assured me that they had managed to get me my preferred seat (the rockstar 5J) but upon checkin it simply had not "stuck")

I stand corrected on the blind-closing. I've done that route always in J quite a few times, although a while back now, and nowhere near as many as @juddles.

I did both QF27 & QF28 in November and just did QF27 on 24/12. I confirm both PJs and blind closing.

You are forgiven as with the usual 6 or 7 wine glasses glittering on your tray ("a tasting") you were probably dazzled by all the reflected light, and thus "felt" that the windows were open.

I'll try for 5. Am I right in thinking 14K and 14A will give extra space if I can't get 5. I want a window seat but because I'm so short I want to be able to get out. If they put me in an E seat I'll scream. Guess I'd better get to check in early on the morning then.

Whatever the seat, on the return leg try for a left-hand-side window seat. Although the cabin is dimmed, you can often get a beautiful view of the ice with a never-ending sunset...

Also, a small favour just out of personal interest, let me know how the arrival back in SYD goes. Travelling in J on that flight it is usually a very quick affair to get through immigration - but then they start offloading the baggage on to the smallest carousel in the world - one where it will not load more bags until all the rest of the flight manage to detach themselves from duty free and actually retrieve their bags - so you end up spending half an hour or more there.... :/

btw - did you have any vaccinations for South America - debating whether I'll need anything.

It won't be necessary. Yellow Fever is the main one of concern and it is endemic in small parts of Argy.

I think the generic question on return is "Have you been in S America in the last 6 days." They may want to check just where with you.

If ever considering going to YF risk areas in the future, why not just get the shot and be done with it? I have pretty much everything except rabies and I keep my vaccination certificate stapled into the back of my passport. That way, I'm ready to go anywhere and can accommodate any checks or queries.

I have all my vaccinations since I started work (a LONG time ago) and had to have TB Smallpox etc, scanned in a folder on Dropbox so can access anytime - how sad is that :D

If you go to a travel doctor they will give you the small yellow WHO vaccination certificate booklet that is the same dimensions as a passport. You can get all things filled in on that and keep it in or with your passport. I use it for all vaccinations, not just those travel-related - eg. I recently had the shingles vaccination and I had my GP's nurse enter that. It keeps everything in one place.

Besides Sth America, get a course of rabies shots. Like an ex smoker, Im a late convert and evangelist. Lethal downside ( not having it), fantastic upside.

Sorry for the late reply.
I had the yellow fever vaccination because the official information said it was required for entry to Brazil.
But they haven´t asked for it anywhere.

I left it too late to get an appointment so will just have to stay away from any nasty places

Update - while I was not asked for the yellow fever vaccination certificate on entry to Brazil or on entry to Argentina after leaving Brazil, I was asked for it on my return to Sydney from Santiago. I was processed quickly because I was able to produce it. If I had not had the certificate I would have been diverted to a medical assessment. Presumably this would have caused a considerable delay.

I note that I was not asked for it when I returned from Santiago in November. I was only asked this time because I had also been to Brazil.
