From memory the ferries between Santorini and Athens have a couple of stops at other islands so the trip can end up being very long compared to flying.

+1 for staying at Imerovigli too. Anastasis Apartments are outstanding with a horizon pool looking out over the sea and Despina is the best host you could ever find. Expedia rated it the most romantic hotel in the world a few years ago. Often need to book nearly 12 months in advance because it is in big demand though.

The island the ferry stops at is party island for sweet young things. We enjoyed the ferry - you have assigned seats and a snack bar. Makes a difference from flying.

Oh wow, thanks for the recommendation.
I'll have a look later today when I get the chance. 12 months is a long time to book ahead.

I have already booked the plane trip out of JTR. That was my first inter europe flight that I booked. Most of my inter-euro flights will end up arriving very late, which is very annoying for me.

Alanslegal did a trip report on Anastasis Apts a while back which is well worth a read - once you see the pics you will put it straight to the top of your bucket list. It and the Intercontinental in Cannes are our all time faves.

Just having a look at other flight alternatives and thinking, as someone else has suggested here or somewhere else, that I fly into ATH and have a stop over and just crash at the Sofitel at ATH then take a flight to JTR next morning. Better than spending $hundreds on an expensive room just to arrive at midnight and crash.

Just looking at Aegean's website and when you book multi-city: CDG-ATH and ATH-JTR there are so many more flight options for the JTR leg, about 7 flights to JTR in a day, and works out to be cheaper/same price as if I were to book CDG-JTR. When I look at CDG-JTR, they don't show that many options, i.e. the different layover options.

Only annoying thing is checking in and out of a hotel and airport.

hi all, just bumping this as travelling to Imerovigli for a wedding next June, with a 9 month old. We'll either be coming from SYD or somewhere in the USA. How did you go about figuring out which airlines fly direct instead of via ATH? I've only found Thomas Cook so far.

Cheers

I flew AirBerlin/Niki VIE-JTR in June 2016. But I think there are also EasyJet and BA direct flights from LGW.
