Just received a good one from Daniel who was posing as Westpac. I love the Dear Costumer one too.
Yesterday I received a phone call regarding shares in the US. Yes it was a scam saying I had more than $100,000 ready to get paid. I must say I preferred the bigger amounts from Nigeria. They were so much more generous.

Today's email was from a new player, because this is the simplest one I've seen in a while:

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Andrew Yaku, writing you from UK, I represent a top Government Official from Saudi Arabia who has some funds in an European country. There is urgent need to move the funds out from the current location through an individual who can invest it in a lucrative ventures in his/her country.

If you are interested in the proposal and have the capability to handle it, kindly reach me immediately for further information and discussion on the way forward.

Please reply to: [email address deleted]

Best Regards

Andrew Yaku.

Hello Sir,

How are you today? I am Daniele Gumede, an investor banker and the account officer to Mr. Julian Williams, CEO of Basileus Capital, a private-equity group here in Cape Town South Africa.

On the 26th of July, 2012, my client, (Mr. Williams) was shot dead by his former business partner due to a payment dispute/misunderstanding between them. See link below.

[redacted - Forbes link to story - the story about the death is actually real]

I have contacted you to assist in regaining the money deposited secretly by my client in total of Fifty Million US Dollars ($50,000,000 USD) before it gets appropriated and declared negated by my bank where this huge deposit was lodged.

Since the said amount above ($50,000,000 USD) was deposited without the knowledge of anyone of his (Mr. Williams) relatives, I seek your consent to present you as the next of kin of the deceased so that the proceeds of this account can be paid to you and then you and I can share. I have all necessary legal documents that can be used to back up any claim we may make. All I require is your honest cooperation to enable us to see this deal through.

I guarantee that this will be executed under a legitimate arrangement that will protect you from any breach of the law. Please get in touch with me at [redacted] to enable us to discuss further about this transaction.

Even more intriguing are ones that now are using Calendar invites (or cancellations) - I got two of those but harder to share here.

Friend received this from Telstra but he does not consider it a scam. It has a surprising typo which I bolded that made me suspicious.

Hi (proper first name used),

Great news! We understand how important it is to have enough data. That's why we want to do better for you and ensure you have the data you need for today, and in the future.

As a thanks for being with us, your new monthly data allowance on your Telstra Medium Bundle 200GB plan is 1000GB and you can start using this now. This upgrade will also appear on your home broadband bill.

What's the catch? There isn't one. Just catch more of what you love online – justtime for the holidays.

I think that might actually be real (but very poorly though through from Telstra), I had a call on my Telstra mobile yesterday from someone claiming to be from Telstra telling me about a higher 1000GB limit on my home broadband and was wondering if I had received notification of this by email, they then wanted me to confirm my name, address and account number etc, and of course I said no way would I be giving out any of that information to someone who has just called me out of the blue, so put it in writing to my home address or otherwise b$55@r off.

So when challenged on this they backed down and simply said to enjoy the higher download limit! They apparently had nothing to sell and nothing to ask about my existing service so a totally pointless phone call. The young girl was most insistent that she actually was from Telstra but how do I know that? Seems a new unique way to annoy your existing customers or possibly a phishing attempt.

Just alerting everyone as Mrs prozac was fooled into responding to an ASIC request today and inputted a company ABN. When nothing happened she called me and I saw it was a scam and explained not to respond to emails from Gov'ment departments.
