Scams like these

My father kept an umpire’s whistle next to the phone….and once I remember hearing him tell someone spruiking cheaper electricity. ‘I know what to do .. turn off the lights (followed by the whistle )..’

They’ve done their research if it is a scam, the 1300 number is Santos’ number and Amanda Devonish is the Company Secretary.
Those ones are the freaky ones.. I also get telstra texts with links that look remarkable ‘official’. I never answer unknown call number and if it’s some one I know they’ll leave a message

I’ve never owned Santos shares in any entity I’ve had an interest in so easy for me but for shareholders that’s an issue.

It came from this email addy.

Just the usual scam. From addresses are easily substituted. One never clicks on such links and companies will very rarely send such emails.

But yes it’s difficult to know these days.

Interestingly, whenever we have a legitimate UPS or FedEx delivery, one that we have actually ordered, we always get one or two scam emails such as delivery not possible please follow the link to redirect package and see attached supposed Word.doc for new invoice. :)

…and that’s the bit that slays me .. these fake ones are timed around real deliveries … unsettling even if they are generated randomly

you think it’s the courier deliveries being hacked?
NFI. But it seems to me not random. Haven’t had such an email for months and now I get two proporting to be from UPS when I am expecting legitimate deliveries. Could be serendipity of course. Chissà.

An attached word.doc is a giveaway warning that’s it a scam virus. Antivirus software takes care of that anyway but one has to be aware.

🤔

FYI: We had a series of phone calls and emails last Xmas offering us $20 million for our software and business from a company in Canada and UAE offering a credible valuation with seemingly authentic credentials and company details and senior executives names and emails. Contacting the company directly they said they had never heard of the people mentioned.

Bugger!

Received this today, the “from” address is the same as all my other Clear Score emails. I logged in (not from the link) and it said my Wattpad password had been compromised. I’ve never used Wattpad and don’t have the app on any of my devices 🤷🏻‍♀️

I know the 2 sites where my email addresses and PWs were leaked, one of them was Linkedin in about 2015. So much for the "professional" network. Had a few scam job offers through LI too.

I suspect sometimes no technology involvement, simply someone being paid for info. A danger of outsourcing, difficult to find the leak.
☹️
Yes
I can imagine temptation too great in these low pay gigs….I once got a pair of coughpy jeans instead of an expensive jacket I ordered from US delivered by fedex (Package swircheroo)
The supplier sent me replacement immediately .
I let fedex know but they alreadry knew!!

A couple of weeks ago I ordered some clothing from Melbourne. This morning I received a message that the parcel would be delivered today. Mid morning I got a recorded phone call from "Border Force" from the "Australian Federal Government" saying there was an issue with my parcel. I hung up. At lunchtime the parcel was delivered.
I think the scam gave me good luck as all of the 5 items fitted perfectly.

Beware of on-line ordering/delivery scams that are rampant over the Christmas season this year.

I ordered some expensive jewellery and perfume as a gift for my wife, and the scammers delivered me a new power tool combo set and a new 75" TV. Just can't trust some people these days.

NM, how did they swap, did you actually get in your hands the power tool combo set and new TV, or did they email to say they will deliver.
Did they swap the products, ie, you had ordered $1500 worth of items and the swap was $699 value at the most?
Just trying to deduce if the scammers were the vendors/sellers of the items.
If so, you lost a value of $801, not so bad if so.

Kogan is in my bad books now, ordered a $29 puffer vest 3.5 weeks ago, free shipping, and the item has not arrived.
No notification of item delivered in my email, but never mind, $29 and I get 14 QFF points.
Not going to make a lost item claim, not worth it.
Edit: can we assume that 50% of delivery drivers in Aust are crooked?

Then the worst ones are now the Aust based Wangiri phones, both from mobiles and landlines, have never answered them, so don't know what the end aim is, if its fake AFP, or fake ATO, or fake Dept of Finance, or the "Finance Monitoring Dept" what ever that one is.
Lots of Aust mobile numbers are calling me now, as if I run a scammer answering business, I don't know who owns, and they come all the time, only thing I can do is to let it ring, then block and delete.
Plus landline calls from Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, even NZ, all where I don't know anyone.
