Scams like these

So (too) many numbers coming up that I leave to go to voicemail as don't recognise. Three yesterday that look like Melbourne numbers. I could scream..
Do they actually leave voicemail?

The spam calls to my daughters number have stopped.

Unknown number/Private number/Spoofed number...
I think its most likely spoofed, Martine...
Its very hard to know unless you call them back, but there is a risk to that, ie, it could be sent off overseas to a Wangiri via, (((You call has been transferred to the next available operator, ...))) worst if you are on prepaid if they string you along, as your credit would drop.
If its postpaid, they might also still string you along.
Not so bad if you have an all can use post paid mobile bill, but then, they could then onsell your phone number as a live one.
Hoping the Aust Anti Scam Centre can do something, but in the end, they might be a toothless tiger, despite the millions the Aust govt is giving the ACCC to run it.
It will go on until there is a system set up to stop spoofing once and for all.

There should also be a system whereby, if a person does not know anyoone overseas, that they be given the option to "not accept" calls from an overseas number option within ACMA.
Or be able to "call bar" all overseas incoming calls.
Half the calls I get on my mobile and home phone is from Africa/Lithuania/Serbia/PNG/even NZ, etc, and many more.

That‘d only work if the mechanism for spoofing local numbers was somehow removed; I get on average about 1 scam call a day, and I doubt I’ve seen one yet this year from an overseas number.

Maybe Aust getting rid of cheques/checks is a good thing, anti scam wise.
No more fake checks from some dodgy African country/countries, for some dodgy work from home schemes.

I'm not sure I agree. Cheques are good when you want to send money such as donations and you don't want bank account details or credit card details all over the place.

They should be doing more to counteract spammers/scammers by not allowing spoofing of numbers, emails only from registered email addresses and bank accounts that are used to receive money need to be verified by real identification from real people in person not online.

That way any money sent can be tracked. A spammer/scammer is not entitled to any privacy or protection. They can't transfer money all over place losing visibility for the proceeds of their crimes.

If I remember correctly, cheques usually have BSB and Account Number printed on them in plain type & in magnetic ink too.
(I don’t have one with me to check (or is that cheque…)).

Do they? I have not seen one for a while. My parents and brother have been using my cheque book for many years. There's no money in cheque account unless they send a cheque.

Now need to find a new payment method. Maybe prepaid debit card when Coles have promotions.

Now need to find a new payment method
I just had a look at a couple of my bank accounts.
For them (CBA & Macq), neither show any account details (other than name) when receiving a deposit (either by the old BSB & A/c# method or the newer PayID method).
Generally speaking, if you’re paying someone you’ll want them to know that it’s you that’s making the payment; so no superfluous information is being disclosed.

Re: Ade's reply above, the first few are correct, I know as I have ordered things from Wish/ebay/Lightinthebox, and those of them that use Auspost, do have it as my.po.
But the rest of the link could lead to a scam website.
Granted, I have never had one with "facebook" as a provider, mine always comes from Auspost, but of course, as we know, that can also be spoofed.
If you are not expecting any packages, and you are not in the 50-76 range (when you get the bowel screening test kit), then any Auspost/Auspoo sms or facebook or linked in message, is indeed a scam.
Will read the rest of the scammers reports now, as written by the others.

Re: Blackadders, people do make money making cough videos of themselves.
If you have been the victim, let that scammer friend do as he wish.
You will be famous.
If you haven't indulged, block sender, and delete.
If you are able, chase up raw message and trace the email chain to find the main opening sender, ie, not the real estate agency or "dudgeon".
