Scams like these

Looks like AFF members are popular with this particular scammer - or at least the modus operandi...

Though in my case it was Demaris (with a Hispanic name at outlook.com) who wanted the info.

Happy wandering

Fred

I got a call last week. After I said hello the line stayed quiet for a few moments then hung up....oh no, it's him again. I'm sure I've worn them down a bit.

Apparently my package has experienced an exception and I need to show govermental ID

I got exactly the same email, word for word, from two different "pretty cute" women today, however I'll have to disappoint them because I'm afraid I'm not into ladies (not that there's anything wrong with that :) ) . Not sure what the scam is either - and yes, they would like to know my name as well, which isn't in my email address but WAS in the subject line of both emails ...

I got it as well, straight into the DELETE and Spam address

I delight in reporting to the originating ISP, sometimes receiving confirmation emails back that they have taken action. Secondary benefit is my email spam has reduced to almost nothing.
The common Paypal scams are easy to report, just forward to [email protected]. Takes 5 seconds and does a public service. The others are more involved and take around 2 minutes to search and send.

(Someone deleting themselves from Meetic), hit, got that one in my inbox too.
Deleted it without opening it though.
Is Meetic a legit site?
Never heard of it before.

Don't risk "unsubscribing" from these sites as it will likely unleash a virus or trojan on your system.

+1 on that.

At the very least, they now know you read their cr*p and its a 'live' email address. They'll send you more and onsell it to other spam lists.

I have had this a number of times and it can be quite worrying. Is someone calling to see if the premises is occupied? or is it a form of harassment? I have reported this in several instances to Telstra and they have monitored my landline. When I have asked them to tell me the name of the subscriber calling me they said they can't do that. Why? That cough who is calling me knows who I am. Now I keep a referee's whistle near the phone. If there is no answer within 5 secs, I blow a penalty!

Most of these scammers use robocallers. Basically using computers to dial multiple numbers, which will only redirect the call to someone in their scam call centre if you say something.

I cannot believe someone would do that to another human being. :(
Unfortunately this scam is one of the oldest and been going on for many years. It's the easiest to carry out.

Actually it's probably more difficult now. It used to be a bullet shoved into checked luggage, now it seems to be carry on that's 'hacked' on the security belt. Good reason to keep things locked and keep a very good eye on what's happening on the security screening.

One of the reasons I don't like being singled out for body scan is that you lose sight of your goods on the security belt. I refuse to enter the scanner until I can see my stuff passed or taken off the belt and where I can see them. But they do get quite shirty when you ask to do this.

The hardest mailing list to exit is the Australia Shareholder's Association. I've unsubscribed to that about 6 times. stops the emails for about 6 months.

Reverse phone directories used to be available.

Just get an answering machine and don't stress.

I've got an answering machine. It cuts in after 6 rings. I just don't like being stalked. If you come across any people deaf in the right ear you will know that they tried to pull this stunt on me and were penalised for offside!

Of-course they may have a do unto others approach. I wouldn't do it.
