Just got an email from "Apple Service", saying that someone from Russia used my AppleID to download podcasts and to go to iforgot.apple.com to change my password. It was well written but not addressed to me by name.

Naturally, I did not click on the link, but logged in elsewhere and changed the p/w. I phoned Apple who said it was not real and to go and change the p/w again.

I feel as if I just dodged a bullet.

DO NOT CLICK ANY LINKS:

Your Apple ID, was just used to accept Podcasts from the App Store on a computer or device that had not previously been associated with that Apple ID. You may also be receiving this email if you reset your password since your last purchase.

This adoption was initiated from Rusia.

If you initiated this action, you can disregard this email. It was only sent to alert you in case you did not initiate this yourself.

If you did not initiate this action, we recommend that you go to xx_ to change your password, then see xx_ for further assistance.

Regards,
Apple

Here is one that I received last night and duly reported to ACCC Scamwatch:

I have "arisen"? sounds very Christian for what I guess is a Hindu!! Hope the bas***ds perish. I have to admit that I am sometimes guilty of careless conduct, but never in a vehicle.

Austman, that could be the start of a fun "to and fro" with a scammer - although set up a "clean" email address with which to play....

Finally got the AGL email today.
Sheesh they're getting good, these scammers: the email had my name and address correct and asked for an amount that's about right in $ in the correct format.
The scammers even had my account number correct.

Oh, wait............

I knew mine was right from the amount-scammers wouldn't believe I'd take it seriously

I initially thought this somehow MUST be a scam. Tomorrow is Saturday too... (from an unknown to me number that I've erased a few digits in case it's genuine)

But I couldn't think how it could work - so said "OK".

I'll find out tomorrow!!

I'll find out tomorrow!!

... and ... NOT a scam.

It was Nexday delivering a part-order from Vinomofo that was due next Wednesday/Thursday. Delivered on a Saturday - I guess due to Christmas extra deliveries. But no message from Vinomofo. Vinomofo's website still shows the order as "processing". The TXT was from the driver?

It seems that even for big software companies like Nuance "Tis the Season to "bait and switch".......

Click on Buy Now and the price jumps from $75 to $135+:

That's because you are identified as being in a different geographic "zone" to that where the ad is displayed. If you have a friend in the US who can order it for you the displayed price will be levied I'd expect.

When you click "Buy Now" you're taken to an AU site with AU phone numbers etc.

So you're saying if I was in the US (or used a VPN) I could purchase the software for AU $75? - doesn't make sense.

Pretty much. Didn't amex run something a while back that enabled you from US sites as if you were in the US?

First subcontinent call I was home for for a while - Anon number.

This is the Internet Department from Telstra calling... so they've moved on from Telstra.
Couldn't be bothered stringing them

[TABLE="width: 100%"][TR][TD]I am happy they are worried about my potential - glad that they, unlike most people, recognise that I have some. Their English does seem to be getting worse however.
