Scenic river cruise Europe

Yes I am wary of the river water levels. I thought the early in the year river cruises would have more water in the rivers, due to the snow melt.

So far we have always done our own thing, but it does appeal only unpacking once in two weeks. And friends said that they were pleasantly surprised at how active and fit you needed to be to enjoy all aspects. They also include bikes to use.

After the cruise we would have another 3.5 weeks of our own independent travels.
To avoid the prospect of buses, river cruising from the very end of September is a good idea. Never perfect, as last year showed. However, there were no problems when my ship left Amsterdam on October 4th (or thereabouts). Yes, early spring after the snow melts is also a good option, as long as there isn't also too much spring rain. It's a lottery! I would definitely book October again.

Yes @Seat0B it is appealing the prospect of only unpacking once, food/drinks, small passenger size etc. We have only done one other ocean cruise to Alaska which was wonderfull. We too have always done our own touring previously.
@Pushka my girlfriend did a Christmas market tour last December and loved it!
@kookaburra75, in my recent research I have looked at many many river cruises and cruise companies and the early bird offers are very nice with some offering $6000 off per couple.
@tgh I originally thought I would be looking at them in the later years, but there seems to be lots of physical activities and tours (that's if one wants to be going at pace) or just relaxing!
@Port Power, river levels is a worry and lots of reviews I have read don't seem to have too much trouble early spring, so heres hoping. It is a lottery!
