Hi All,

First post, so I received an email from Qatar Airways about a change in schedule (only 5 mins delay in arrival) for a Classic Rewards Flight we booked this April via Qantas. I logged in to Qatar Airways using my booking reference number and saw the notification of the change and status as partially confirmed. I was able to accept the change on my own and receive the e-ticket shortly afterwards showing confirmed status with e-ticket number.

Now, I also know that a lot of people have been having their flights changed/cancelled and after digging around, found some horror stories in this forum. I stumbled upon this article : Qantas Partner Awards: What If The Airline Cancels Your Flight?

Now the last part of the article suggests the following:

If you notice that there has been a schedule change on your ticket and you don’t yet have a new ticket number, you might also need to call Qantas and insist that the ticket is reissued ASAP.

After the call, check to make sure your ticket has actually been re-issued. You can do this by entering your booking reference (PNR) on Royal Jordanian’s website and checking that a ticket number starting with “081” is visible. If you can see a ticket number there which is different to your original one, your ticket has been re-issued.

Here are the things I did:
1.) Checked the old e-ticket number vs the new one and found that it's the same number. I am unsure if this is fine or do I have to ask Qantas to re-issue the ticket as mentioned in the article?
2.) Checked through RJ and can confirm that I see the details with my ticket number '081'.

Now the only problem I have is that I am unsure if I should call Qantas to reissue my ticket as I don't want them to do something and making it even worse. If calling them is suggested, can you please let me know what exactly do I need to request so they don't end up accidentally cancelling it or whatever?

Thanks.

Does anyone know if a ticket re-issue is needed if the only change is a slightly later arrival time?

I don't know for sure but recently I have had 2 classic rewards bookings affected by time changes - in the case of Manila, the flights were changed by a day. In all cases I accepted the changes but the tickets were not reissued, remaining with the same 081 number. In all cases I successfully checked in and boarded the flights without issue. YMMV but none of my flights involved Qatar Airways.

Is the eticket the same or a new number?

Given you accepted and have received a new eticket, the system has done exactly what it's supposed to to.

It is the same number as the old one. So this should be fine?

Thanks for this, this gives me a bit of peace.

I would have thought that as long as the flight number and the date of travel remains the same, then it should be ok.

That is, the itinerary still matches the eticket.

By any chance, was it a partner airline or was it a Qantas flight?

What date does the 081 eTicket show you in the top box under "issued"? Sometimes, when you request the itinerary to be resent, Qantas send you the old (sic!) eTicket that is not reflective of the change. If that's the case, then you need to call asap and be very firm.

All Qantas - one was a classic reward Sydney - Manila return where both flights were put back 1 day and the other was a Qantas domestic 5 minute change.

so to be clear, the updated eticket was sent by Qatar Airways and it doesn't contain the issue date.

I requested a flight itinerary via the qantas portal and it is sending me the old eticket.

I guess I have to call them about this, do I just ask them to re-issue the ticket due to schedule change? Is that the right terminology?

Yes, so QF did most likely not reticket which could QR lead to auto-cancel your ticket.

When you call, you say exactly that and stay on the line until the agent sends you via email either the amadeus extract of the new ticket or the actual eticket. Don‘t take „it‘s in the queue for ticketing“ as an answer, the chances are too high that QR will cancel. Call as often until it‘s fixed.

I called the hotline and discussed the situation to the agent, he was able to send me the amadeus extract to my email but I do note that it is still providing the same e-ticket number as the original one. At least the details gives me a bit of confidence that the booking is still confirmed as of today.

I asked the agent about receiving the pdf e-ticket and he said it should follow shortly within the hour.

I'll update this thread if I do get it.

How did you go? We have heard this story "should follow shortly" too many times which then exactly led to the cancellation of the QR seat. So please, keep calling rather than be sorry later.

No, I still have not received it. I will call again until they send it to me,

Just an update, I finally received the e-ticket and it is reflecting the new time of arrival. However, I do note that it is still having the same e-ticket number and issue date as the original one. Not sure how to proceed now.

Download CheckMyTrip App and insert your full name as per ticket and your booking reference. Check whether a ticket number with 081- shows up under this changed flight.

Just confirming a couple of things;

Did you accept the changes on the Qantas 'manage my booking'? Should always accept changes using the airline you booked through.
If you go to the Finnair website, manage your booking, and go to Passenger Details does it show an eticket number? In the past, for me, the e-ticket number has disappeared from Finnair whilst it was in the queue for reticketing.
If so, is that number the same, or different, to the current e-ticket?
If you add your reservation to the checkmytrip website does it show an e-ticket number?

Every time I've ever had a schedule change I have received a new e-ticket number. That doesn't mean you must have a new number, but my lived experience is it has always been a different number.

At least the e-mail you have received will give you some ammo to get a resolution of QF do screw you. You have clearly done everything you can to ensure the ticket is reissued.

However, I do note that it is still having the same e-ticket number and issue date as the original one. Not sure how to proceed now.
I had one a couple of weeks ago which was a <10 minute change, LAX-MCO on AA. Was eventually told (not by Hobart) that if it is less than 15 minutes, changes only require revalidation of the original ticket (so no change to ticket number) rather than a reissue (which has a new ticket number).

Having said that, I previously got new etickets issued both when QF moved a flight forward by a minute and then back again the next day (which was believed to be due to the MCT change in SYD). So not convinced of the above, but it kind of makes sense.

Not specifically for QF, but with other airlines I've found that a ticket doesn't need to be reissued if the only change is to the arrival time. But if the departure time or flight number changes, a new ticket number might be needed.
