OK, they've given 2 days notice, but that's quite the 'scheduled outage'. It affects the app, too.

During this time you won’t be able to:

  • Log into your Velocity account and view your membership details
  • Change your password
  • Redeem your Velocity Points or transfer points to your Velocity account; or
  • Link your Velocity account to one of our partners.
If you have a flight within the next 48 hours, you can check in now via the Velocity and Virgin Australia websites or apps.

If you need your Velocity membership number for any other upcoming flights with Virgin Australia or one of our Partner Airlines, we recommend that you save your number to your phone as a contact or download your digital card to your digital wallet if you haven’t already done so.

Read our AFF credit card guides and start earning more points now.

Inconvenient it might be, but I'd rather suffer the inconvenience than have my personal data hacked!

The list of functionality offline seems to focus on the membership aspects. Would this mean that our trip details, check-in & BP's are available on the app during the outage?

Looks like the Velocity system, which is a separate system to the Virgin system.

My guess is that they are upgrading their system (which was based on Crane, not sure what it's called since Amadeus took it over)

Has it already started?

My autotransfer FlyBuys to Velocity usually happens within minutes of the points landing in my Flybuys account. But all day today I'v e had 2,000+ points sitting there with no action.

You may be correct.

We flew SYD-CNS at 8am yesterday.

Just went to my Velocity account to see if they credited me for the both sectors booked or the 1 sector direct they put me on without asking (and dumbly did not retain our 3 D/F seats - or any seats) - that I did not want, as heaps less SC, and NOTHING has posted yet. Unusual.

48 hours later, has nothing posted yet. I never look that hard, but recall domestic flights are generally posted next day?

Normally next day, yes, or more often than not in my experience, same day.

Yep, I'm pretty sure it's to do with this software/security upgrade (or whatever it is). My FlyBuys points seem to be stranded as well!

SCs could be an issue for some. If somebody's review date lies inside the "blackout" period and they depend on a flight in that period to reach the requirement (like you could have been doing for example) what happens? Hopefully they will eventually be credited retrospectively and still count to get them over the line.

As a newbie to VA, I observed that the 2 morning flights I took on 26th posted by the same afternoon, but the afternoon flights, including some changed flights, are yet to post - but see below.

I note on the app, the outage start had been moved forward to 9pm on Thurs 27th.
