Scoot to fly to Berlin

Always good to have more options into my favourite city. The only one stop option that I'm aware of from PER is QR.

I had a quick look and I certainly can't see any other 1 stop flight to Berlin out of Perth. It would be nice to be to have another option to Berlin, which is also one of my favourite cities.

We have booked ScootBiz one-way Per-Sin in September ($320 each) to hook up with our QR Companion Sale J flight out of Singapore, so I will be able to see if I could take 12 hours on Scoot.

PER-LHR-TXL soon...

Caught out by not remembering something that I have been reading about for months. Butttt - my claim is correct at present - of course Scoot doesn't fly the route at present either.

I struggle to see the value in Scoot's Euro fares (to Athens currently). They are advertised in the ~$900 range... but that's basic economy. Food and bags extra. Full service legacy carriers are in the $950-$1200 range, all inclusive.

t seems plenty of journalists are getting freebies on the Scoot services... often upgraded to 'ScootBiz' one way or return and give good reviews. Given they are sponsored reviews the 6+ hour wait in Changi only gets a cursory mention and comparison fares on full service carriers don't even get a look in.

I'd have to agree with you there. Once you add baggage and food, the savings don't speak for themselves. I might consider Scoot if I really needed an el-cheapo one-way fare to/from Europe and the full service fares were very significantly more expensive. But I don't, and they aren't.

I think there is a pretty big group of people who just assume LCCs must be cheaper, and that fare does sound historically cheap, so they just do not shop around.

You also have to look at from a non-Australian point of view, it's not all just about Australia! They also sell fares from SE Asia. I recently could have purchased SIN-ATH return, including bags for about $500 return, seemed a reasonable deal to me. Usually full service carriers are closer to $800-900.

Good news for Berlin which didn't have many good news air travel wise lately. How's their 'ScootBiz' in terms of quality and price- could that be a feasible contender for a quick dash to my old hometown and back?

It’s a recliner, I.e PE Style on a legacy carrier.

Make of that what you will

Okay, so it's essentially Premium Economy. How would it compare price-wise with, let's say, Qantas or Singapore Airlines main line via London or Frankfurt for PE? If it's significantly cheaper, it might be worthwhile given the direct route to TXL. For quick second or third dash in a year, that is

it is premium economy 'lite'. So you get the seat (pretty standard 38' pitch, extra width) but everything else is strictly legacy carrier economy. Basic meal. One free drink (water is free). Basic blanket. Not sure about IFE. I think that's BYO. No comparison to legacy carrier PE, and especially not the likes of CX/QF/LH/SQ (BA maybe)

The price is going to be crucial.

As a matter of interest I checked flights for Perth/Athens return in March 2018. In ScootBiz the price was @ $3,035. The only other airline currently flying out of Perth that offers PE is CX and their fare for around the same date was @ $4,530. .

Out of Sydney for March it was about $3,750 in ScootBiz, in CX it was about $6,300 for PE so more of an incentive there. However, I assume that there are far more alternatives for PE out of Sydney than CX.

Per/LHR return in PE for May 2018 is about $5,000.

One drink is free? Okay, no. It would have to be VERY cheap to make me do that and it doesn't look like it will really be THAT good a deal price-wise.

Ex PER not so many options, but exMEL/SYD you'd be comparing full business class on VN (for about $4400) rather than PE on CX/SQ/QF.

ExPER you could take a cheapie to KUL/SIN/BKK/MNL and full business class from there for $2200 upwards to either Europe or USA. (TK has a special exMNL atm to USA for as little as USD1700 for example. This allows stopovers in IST, from where you can get to Europe in business class return for a side trip for AUD570)

Yes I agree - unless the ,unannounced, prices are very, very good - long haul on Scoot doesn't look very competitive.

(I don't believe there is any Per/MNL direct flight. PR only operated to here for a short while before giving up the route.)

No - but you might get the likes of TG/SQ for competitive prices if you can manage that sector(s) in economy.
