Scoot to fly to Berlin

I struggle to see the value in Scoot's Euro fares (to Athens currently). They are advertised in the ~$900 range... but that's basic economy. Food and bags extra. Full service legacy carriers are in the $950-$1200 range, all inclusive.

t seems plenty of journalists are getting freebies on the Scoot services... often upgraded to 'ScootBiz' one way or return and give good reviews. Given they are sponsored reviews the 6+ hour wait in Changi only gets a cursory mention and comparison fares on full service carriers don't even get a look in.

Agree - once you include food and baggage often the LCC seem to not appear to be that 'value proposition'. Keeping an eye out for the promo fares with other airlines can often realise a great fare.

Advertised today is PER-Europe on SQ for ~$800, return! Many dates for next year.

Good on Scoot for giving another European destination a crack, although as many stated already, Scoot's fares really don't add up in most situations.
Although JQ really have missed the boat with flying into Europe, when 5 years ago 3-4 destinations within Europe were touted.

Or just as well they didn't? Their fares would need to be in the $500 range, return, before extras to even compete with legacy carriers in the current climate. Thai airways has released fares from MEL/SYD to Oslo for $861 return in May/June 2018 (deal seen on ozbargain).

But no a pip out of any of the journalists.

SCOOT had an ad in today's Sunday paper with their promotional Berlin Fares. One-way, from Perth, starting at $319 for economy - no baggage, meals etc. ScootBiz was from $1,099 - including baggage, meals etc. Travel period is 20 June - 26 October - blackout periods over school holidays etc.

This looks to be a "good" fare if you travel in peak period. For example flying Thai - leaving 8/8 & returning 22/8 is about $2,589 in Y and Scoot is about $900, if you add food & baggage to the fares. ScootBiz would be $2,198.

hmmm! Raises some interesting choices.

melburnian1 posted a PR fare in the 'cheap airfares thread', so an 8/8-22/8 is available out of MEL/SYD/BNE to London on the dates you mentioned for $1074 (more details here: PR BNE/MEL/SYD - LHR return $1074 - $1092) - with the advantage that you'd earn 10608 Etihad Guest points for the round-trip (PR's super saver 'O' class ears 50% mileage). No blackout dates.

For other airlines' regular economy prices - to BER QR is $1300 return (Scoot beats that), but VN is offering $1100 to FRA (balance tips slightly to VN ). For Scootbiz I'd be jumping on the China Airlines premium economy fare mentioned by Dalescott... to FRA just $1850 return! (that's even cheaper than than the $2300 price mentioned in the 'cheap international airfares' thread, but long layovers in TPE). AMS is available for AUD1795 return.

Out of MEL I agree that there are seriously good competitors - but we don't get PR, VN or China Airlines in Per:( While I have doubts about such a long trip on Scoot we have a lot less choices so they do appear more attractive.

Ah. Didn't notice the Perth bit! WHile SQ is offering economy for $1190 on the dates you mention, for a couple travelling together it saves over $600 by flying Scoot. That's a week of hotels in Europe.

Scoot looks to Australia to support new Berlin flights - Australian Aviation

Australia was expected to be about 10 per cent of bookings for Berlin, CAPA’s Blue Swan Daily website said in a research note in March.

Scoot plans to boost Melbourne to daily from June 2018, from five times weekly currently, and introduce a split schedule of four afternoon departures and three evening departures a week from Melbourne.

“We are quite happy with what Australia is doing at the moment. Our load factors are 80-85 per cent at least through the year which is significant. With the additional capacity we have out of Singapore to places like Berlin, Athens and so on, that will only increase.”

Meanwhile, Kannan also flagged doing more with Virgin Australia, with whom Scoot has an interline agreement that was signed in 2015.
