Hi folks,

At the end of the month my membership year ticks over, and I'll be about 150 SCs from gold (with a bit of travel coming up in December).

Anyone had any joy getting QF to extend their membership year, or should I just not bother trying and investigate an SC run somewhere if I want gold?

Cheers,

Danny

Did you not receive a communication from Qantas FF in early October regarding this?

Qantas won't change your anniversary date, they may however based on immediate future flying if you can prove bookings etc, comp you to Gold

Good luck

Mr!

No email I can remember - but I was on holiday around early October, and might have been a bit scatter brained, unfortunately.

Ouch - shame work doesn't let me book travel further in advance, I don't have much that's actually booked, mainly just stuff that I know is coming up!

Oh well. Maybe they'll be feeling particularly generous....

Anecdotally, QF do seem to be somewhat generous with people who fall short of re-qualifying for a particular status level. However, this generosity does not seem to extend to those who fall short of qualifying for that status level for the first time. Only way to guarantee getting there is to do some status runs.

But 150 status credits may cost more than QP membership, so unless doing extensive international travel where you will need to access partner privileges, I'd consider QP membership as an alternative.

From what I can see the OP is PS now and has not qualified for SG so they would not have received the letter.

I did once ask QF for the ability to credit some SC's I had planned a week after my membership year and they said they would consider it and I would have to call after the SC's had been earned. Unfortunately my plans changed and I never go to try so was stuck as PS for another year.

LAN Mel-Akl or Syd-Akl for $700 in J will get you 160 SC so only marginally more expensive than QC membership. SG is much better than QC as you can use One World partners lounge.

Quite ... It makes sense - I misunderstood the OP's question.

Only way is to earn those 150 SC's!

Concur. Found them very good in the past in regard to maintaining status, but not attaining it.

Mmm... I guess I just need to think about whether I want to shell out the extra dosh. I was just in NZ a week ago, too!

Thanks all!

Danny

Heard back from QFF customer service - no joy, as expected. I don't think I'll be able to get time for an SC run (the Sydney-Auckland LAN trip has to be overnight, correct?), so maybe I'll just shell out for QP membership.

Bad luck mate...

And if Qantas does comp status automatically it is more than likely going to happen ~8 weeks short of the reassessment date.
