I have just requalified Platinum and I still have about 2 months left.

What happens to the SCs earned for these 2 months? Do they go to waste given there is no lifetime status? I am trying to figure out whether it is still worth flying VA over QF for those times. QF has much better frequencies over VA on the Adl-syd route.

You have posted on VA forum, so it's a safe bet you have qualified for VA Plat. To answer your question, doesn't VA have a "rolling" 12-month window for qual/requal? If so, and if my understanding is correct, you have 12 months to prequalify from the date you have qualified for Plat.

If you have just qualified up to Plat then that would be the case, the OP said he requalified. In that case yes until you hit your 12 month anniversary the SC obtained between now an then will not help requalify for the next year, however if making a charge to get 1300 SC you may get a Gold membership to give somebody.

I guess it depends on QFF offering, you've already mentioned greater flight availability, but are you Gold or Plat at QFF, if not your overall experience maybe lower than VA Plat.

The only thing after re qualifying for Plat is the chance of giving Partner Gold/Platinum. Depending on your situation, that may, or may not be worth it.

Cool! I always found VA's 12-month rolling window confusing. I guess it makes a bit more sense to me now.

If you have a family member who could benefit from the SCs you could earn for the next 2 months, you can send them their way via family pooling.

Nah I won't earn enough to be able to gift Gold. Also my wife travels with me (for leisure only, no business travel), and also no need to pool status, so that is never a need for it.

So I guess I will just take flights with better timings, which will most likely be QF. It helps that I did status challenge earlier to be QF Gold now.

Yes, it will definitely depend upon your specific circumstances.

I was in a similar position. I wasn't going to earn enough to gift Gold to my wife but I did earn sufficient to get her to Gold on her own via family pooling. This was combined with the small amount of SCs she earn't herself from leisure travel mostly with me. Even if she didn't make Gold, the bonus points earn that she would receive by being Silver was worth something.

These threads amuse me. They always go “ well i should just fly qantas now” or lines to that effect. Why build status to then immediately move to another carrier? Not logical at all. You have earnt the perks, use them

That's because QF has better timing of flights for Adl-syd route. I can still fly VA but I will get home later and I do value that.

There are those that qualify both rewards schemes as one maybe likely to fly either depending on a number of circumstances such as timing, cost, company policy (BFOD). Then it is advantageous for those to ensure both bases are covered and when that is the case you do then enjoy the benefits of what has just been achieved...in both schemes depending who you fly with, I agree it's pointless to achieve a perk and not enjoy it however each to their own.
