This year I will get to Platinum, but have a bit of a conundrum ...
I fly LAS > LAX > AUS (in J on a VA ticket). On my arrival to LAX is "when I make Platinum". Though as status is reviewed on a daily basis, I will really make Platinum on arrival into Australia.

So the issue is that when I hop on the plane in LAS I'm actually on 20 SC's short of platinum.
Looking a a trip I have planned.....
I could do a SYD > BNE > SYD "Status Run" $89 each way and it will mean when I get on my LAS flight I'm already Platinum.
Or I just leave as is.
Is it worth doing a "Status Run"?

I'm assuming you're currently gold status? I'm curious as to why you value being Platinum while overseas?

The benefits are very similar unless you require the lounge guest allowance, additional points etc.

Yes I'm Gold.
Once I return, I'm not doing much paid travel for the year after so Platinum is actually about the graceful drop back to Gold, rather than dropping down to Silver.
With obtaining Platinum a bit earlier it's about gaining extra sectors whilst Platinum (considering I'd be platinum instead of Gold LAX to SYD in Business) and extra points.

Let me see if I understand this:

You're currently in SYD and have 980SC? And you're flying LAS-LAX-SYD/BNE in the coming months with VA? But not flying there on VA? If you're on 980SC and have time to do a quick trip SYD-BNE-SYD then you will have platinum before this trip.

Also there is not a lot of difference between Gold & Platinum whilst overseas, a different lounge at LAX is about it

Reviewed on a daily basis but, in my experience, it can take a couple of days for account to be reflected. And even longer if travel involves a weekend.

I suggest you do a status run. Reason - Not anything else but the fact that ur SC's from trip will count towards renewal and wont be lost in ether..

That's a good point, the whole trip will count as 1 and basically the 160 you would get for the LAX-SYD leg won't count for anything, I learned this the hard way.

Also you will get the platinum points bonus instead of gold

Also as platinum you will get access to the *A F lounge at TBIT, not that I know what the difference is between the 2 as I've not been there

Personally, I prefer the J lounge. After we ate in the F lounge, I moved to outdoor J.

After all my debating, turns out this week I have an extra business trip to go on. It's going to mean I will have more SC's prior to the big trip so no status run needed.

Prefer the *A J lounge to *A F TBIT lounge. Greater variety of food and the outdoor seating is the best part. Have never seen it standing room only. Not really worth the cost to get to platinum just to get to F lounge.

Just on that matter there really is no significant difference between platinum and gold.
F lounge in LAX
50% More points per flight
Able to guest 3 in DOM VA lounge
Upgrade me points to LAX/AUH however the J reward availability which dictates upgrademe points availability is so poor recently that its really not a benefit anymore
4 comp flexi to J flights - only worth it if you fly coast to coast.
Get first dibs of the first row in aircraft cabin
Lounge access for plat is better in AUH. No diff in SIN - and the KFG lounge in SIN is not that good anyway (no showers and toilets are outside lounge. Better to be a pleb using the various restaurants in Changi.

Reward availability is very poor and is no difference between red, silver, gold, plat

Other than that no biggie. Am thinking of letting platinum status slip to gold.

I was suggesting that overseas there is not a noticeable difference. It's only 25% more points as Gold receive 75% points bonus. Also can upgrade with points on VA long haul if Gold.

I will retain Platinum this year, but after my next trip I will be crediting everything to Krisflyer
