SC's on this BA flight?

I last flew on a BA flight about 30 years ago, so I'm totally unfamiliar with how flying works with them works as far as flying and earning QFF SC's. Have entered my QFF number into the booking.

Does anyone have any idea whether this flight I've booked might earn SC's? The QF website SC's calculator won't recognise Dublin to Birmingham - won't even recognise Birmingham! Paid (not a reward flight), no idea what bucket it has been booked into - no information about that in the confirmation etc - it is an economy seat though.

I suspect not - generally to earn status credits on partners, both the operating and marketing carrier need to be a oneworld airline. Aer Lingus (the operating carrier) is not a member of oneworld so you wouldn't earn status credits for this flight.

I don't think you'd earn points either since Aer Lingus is no longer a Qantas partner.

Cheers - that link helps - basically have to find flights with QF flight no's when travelling intra-Europe if hoping to get SC's

Agreed.
In any event even if it had been a BA aircraft, as a 200mi flight it would have only been 5 or 10 SCs (the latter only in BEHTWY fare categories)

Was hoping for 10 as would be then be just 57 points from reaching WP by the time I get home.

I guess if they do send some SC's my way then it will be a bonus.

Unfortunately, those few remaining QF codeshares on BA metal are few and far between now AND they also have to booked in conjunction with a longhaul flight.

But that is a good golden rule, if it has a QF code you should earn something regardless of the operating airline.

Do note however that the earn in J on BA around Europe is quite decent. There are paid upgrades online that can be quite good value.

Cheers - that is good to know!!

I need to find a way to find QF codeshare flights other than using the QF website - I'm sure that it is not showing me all the options!

This may not be possible unless you're connecting to/from a QF flight.

You'll still earn SCs if you're on a BA, IB or AY intra-Europe flight though. Just need to make sure it's operated by one of those carriers (or a subsidiary that is a oneworld affiliate).

Aer Lingus, Level and Vueling are probably the main exceptions to earning points and SCs in Europe - they are owned by IAG (the parent company that also owns BA and IB) but are not oneworld affiliates.

I certainly am not finding any QF codeshares on KLM metal at the moment - and when trying to book through the QF website it insists that you use points rather than $ - so difficult to earn SC's anyway.

For inter EU-UK not be possible unless you're connecting to/from a QF flight.
Will not be able to book a standalone QF codeshare in EU UK

https://www.qantas.com/au/en/freque...line-earning-tables/earn-category-tables.html (hard to find - deliberate in my opinion)
Go to partner airline
Find the eqivalent QF earning class vs the fare letter of the partner. If the airline fare class of the ticket you purchased not listed nil earning. In some cases not 1 to 1 (like MH) . KLM EU flights earn QF points, but not SC (compare with OW airlines)
Go the QF online calculator. Less SC than a QF flight in most cases for the same fare class/class of travel
If not listed check the distance, May be possble to retro claim with some effort.

Cheers - won't be connecting to/from QF for this flight so no SC's then - oh well.

No, if you are flying BA, IB, AY etc you will get SC’s. J fares can be relatively cheap in Europe and are good status earners

Made them a lot more expensive so not as good value now?
No, they just stopped crediting as business rather than at the original economy earn rate.

Having indicated that, such upgrades can still be reasonable value. Some used to do it for the SC more than the "comfort".

LOL - I'm mainly after the SC's :)

One way business LHR-MAD can often be had for about £200 and earns 60SC. Even cheaper on return due to APD.

Per the Qantas website on partner accrual, yes you will earn status credits and points for any British Airways (BA) marketed flight provided of course the flight is booked into a fare that corresponds to an earning category:

Indeed, this is a rarity in the program as only QF, BA and AA allow you to collect status credits and points irrespective of who is operating the flight. And for those about to raise their hands and say, it's silent on codeshares, well that's the point. If codeshares were excluded they would have said something about it as is the case with Alaska Airlines for instance:

To your second point which is how many points you'll earn, realize that the points calculator tool is not infallible. There are many routes for which it cannot calculate things like status credits such or calculates them incorrectly. For these instances you need to refer to Qantas' point and status credit accrual table. Before using the table, identify which earn category you are booked into. For instance a G fare on BA would correspond to a Discount Economy fare. Now looking at the tables you'll notice that there is no specific carve out for flights within Western Europe. So you'll need to refer to the all other flights table which uses the distance flown to calculate points and status credit accrual. Now the flight from Dublin (DUB) to Birmingham (BHX) covers a distance of 200 miles per GCMap:

Supposing the flight was booked into discount economy, this will earn you a grand total of 5 status credits and 50 Qantas Points as it sits in the distance band of 101 to 250 miles:

Hope that helps.
