Hi guys

I tried getting a seat allocation over the phone for one of my bookings, for which I purchased an extra seat, as these bookings won't load on the QF website at all using MMB. The staff at the contact centre used to be able to allocate these without any trouble. However, I was just told by the staff that I spoke to that in their procedures, it is highlighted that seating must not be allocated via telephone for extra seat bookings.

I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this, and if this is actually true?

Thanks guys!

Cheers.

You wont get a seat until check-in. Rely on your status to kick in (if you have any) and you'll be fine ;)

You wont get exit rows or anything though, the fact you have purchased an extra seat doesn't say to them you'd be it to help in an emergency ;)

Additionally, if you take your booking ref (and last name) to access the booking, it'll load - it just wont when you're logged into your QFF account. Oh and QFLink flights your seat can't be selected till check-in, if by chance that's what you've booked?

I actually want to get the pair seats in the rear of the B744, which have nearly all been taken except one pair, which is why I wanted them to allocate it for me. I am not actually after the emergency exit rows. I doubt my status will be of much help here seeing as the pair seats in the rear are open to everyone.

I'm not on QFlink, but your suggestion works and does load the booking. However, I suppose selecting a seat there is just going to stuff everything up (and they'll then have to reallocate it) so I'll probably ring back on Monday again when the seating department is actually open.

Thanks again for your input! Much appreciated.

I'd still be inclined to allocate one of the pair seats (if the phone exercise doesn't work) - that way, at check-in, you can argue that you selected your seat early in the process and still want that seat. (If QF allow someone to choose the seat beside you, then I'd argue it's up to QF to reallocate that person).

You could try to select seats, if you're given the option, and see what happens. It might let you select for both seats, or it might not work, or depending on where you select, it might bump anyone allocated in the seat next to yours ;)

You'll have to let us know ;)

Thanks guys for all your help so far!

Under the older website, when I could still load a multi-seat booking through my QFF account, I actually did select seats using the MMB tool. It only allowed me to select one seat (since there was only one recognised traveller on the booking) and did not block out the neighbouring seat. However, when I then rang up to get the neighbouring seat blocked, I got chided by the phone operator who mentioned something along the lines of "now we have to go in, remove your allocation and redo everything again because you're not allowed to select seats like that". Not wishing to go through that again, I usually just leave it up to them now to allocate and it's always worked in the past (i.e. getting a seat allocated over the phone). This is the first time I've heard them mentioning that their procedures forbade it explicitly.

I will try selecting a seat online again and see how we go. Thanks very much guys once again!

Hey guys,

Just an update - the seatmap for QF51 (the B744 flight) does not load at all online even if I could load up the booking in MMB. I rang back again this morning and managed to get a very helpful agent who liaised with the seating department to get me the pair seats that I wanted so it's all good now.

Thanks again for all your input!
