Last week I booked a sale fare from syd-sfo. A few days later I paid extra to book in pe syd-sfo return.

My ? is I was booked in row 25 over and 37 on return. Neither seat is in blocked area.

I've recently made gold and thought I would be in with a chance to be in the blocked seats, any thoughts?

I did ask if I could move forward but was told no.
cheers

thanks, going out 10/11 seat 25j and return 11/2 seat 37b. I had to call for something else tonight and call centre said my pe hasn't been ticketed as yet but I am booked.
cheers

Call me Crazy, but I see no QF flights 10NOV SYD-SFO nor 11FEB SFO-SYD

thanks for looking, I don't understand why I can't get a blocked seat being gold. I thought if unblocked seat, if non-ff status and paying for ticket get unblocked and with some ff status, get a crack @ blocked seat. I'm aware of the different levels of status that determine one getting access to blocked seats. Probably making no sense now, so will leave it at that.

hello there bew to the forum - loving it so informative! May I please ask why Qantas block seats like that?

Thanks :)

So that inferior plebs don't end up sitting next to the exalted few unless absolutely unavoidable :)

Hello k8s9999 - welcome to AFF

It is so QF can issue prefered seating to their excelled, quality prefered customers (such as JohnK & Myself ;) and a long list of others...) - the premium bunch (CL and Platinum - Emerald flyers)

It is also for load ballance according to QF (yeah right) as well

These seats can be snagged on the day at the counter usually, but the likelyhood of having no premium flyers in the front couple of rows is very slim and QF will try to leave centre seats free in Y in them rows for WP flyers. I have been on a FRA flight - sardine central behind me, the first two rows empty seats between PAX

I am sure that there are other reasons as well

Mr!

With not being able to access the Q-Blocked seating even with a telephone call, that is a change from previously where PS/QP and above has access to most of them.

As an aside, there is some good news (at the moment). Note the configuration for row 25 is 2x3x2 - this means skybeds!

Looking at the full seat map for this flight, it is 14 seats in Zone A and upstair being sold as business. That means that 14 J travllers have access to lie flat first class beds.

All downstairs J seating is allocated to Y+.

The first six rows of WHY are 2x4x2 so PE seating.
So you have a 4 Class 744 F/J/W/Y being sold as J/W/Y.

that is excellent news serfty re. sky beds. I just checked expertflyer and saw skybeds going over. I will need to keep looking to make sure they don't change plane type. I was going to request business upgrade. bit pointless asking for upgrade on this leg if i'm already in a skybed (yippee), can save the points. :)

am requesting upgrade on qf74 on way back as think this is definitely pe.

am i right or am i wrong???
cheers

I like the expression on the front row sardine. He looks like he's saying, somewhat indignantly, "Oh do I really have to sit in this sardine can?" and the 2nd row one looks a bit more resigned to the sardine can situation but still looks somewhat uncomfortable.
