Yesterday, flying on a 737 service from Perth to Sydney, I was seated in 2C.

A young woman came onto the aircraft and plonked herself in 1A.

I didnt think much of it except the real 1A duly turned up.

He asked her if she was in the right seat. She got up and then wandered down to at least halfway down the aircraft.

I am still wondering whether it was deliberate or she was an airhead.

Trying to nab 1A is a bit cheeky... But people do sit in the wrong seats all the time so who knows.

What always makes me laugh is people who are inevitably sitting well down the plane get on board and immediately look up at the displayed seat number overhead as though miraculously their seat will be one of the first they pass.

I booked and paid for exit row seat on JQ international (44a}. Nobody else paid in my row so 2 spare seats next to me. A group of 3-4 young Asian women (presumably JP - departing from Hanida) boarded who had allocated seats elsewhere as they were passing one of them motioned to the others left the group and sat in 44c.

As crew are.preparing for departure an FA comes along with iPad and asks to see her boarding pass and then tells her firmly you have an allocated seat go sit in it. The woman was really huffy and very reluctantly moved.

Later in the flight after take off same woman comes back and sits in 44c again. Same FA comes along hands on hip and stares at her. Woman gets up and moves again.

Later during the night lights out and everyone settled down she is back again in 44c.

Self entitled generation.

They are just locating the position of the row number markings, so they know where to look. Good idea.

People do the same thing when entering cinemas, sports stadiums etc

I find it a bit amusing the self upgraders don't seem to understand that even if nobody has that seat allocated, that the crew have a manifest and will figure it out pretty quickly.

There are always those sorts who will try it on. Chutzpah etc.

As for the shouty subject line, it was an attempt to poach - not successful.

Later during the night lights out and everyone settled down she is back again in 44c.

She clearly thought that being in your company was a lot better than her friends...

Experienced this recently on a QF flight to Incheon.

Upon boarding my wife discovered an older lady who had made herself very comfortable in her seat - unwrapped the blankets, amenity kit and was enjoying a glass of sparkling. When advised 2A was not her seat, she just got up without apology and decided that she'd sit in 4A - which was my seat.

I had not arrived on board yet (I was on the second bus) to the plane, so my wife had to tell her that it was not her seat either. No idea where the crew were at this point but in the end, we noted that she was supposed to be in 5F, however had decided she'd sit wherever there was an empty seat during boarding.

And the next phase of this is when they realise they're at row 25, then walk two rows and need to check the number again. But to be fair, I can empathise a little bit. If the first row you see is row #25, then the numbering may seem a little random.

Yep, first time I flew on a 787 when I got to the economy row and it started in the 40s I had to do a double take.

Same thing happened recently on an EK A380 on the bottom floor. I knew I was at the back, but again the seat numbering started in the 40s.

Better that people are checking as they go instead of just assumed that 50B is down the back and then having to fight against the traffic to make it back to the front.

We had a group of Bikies on a Virgin flight from Brisbane to Adelaide. They were also intoxicated. One of them sat in my seat. The crew came down, looked at me who was now seated elsewhere (deserted flight) looked at the guy then walked back to the crew area. Wise move not to create a disturbance mid flight.

However waiting for them at Adelaide airport were several burly police.

Had this happen a couple of times. (Probably coz I usually towards the end when travelling J).

I was once told by the SP (seat poacher) "they're all the same just sit there".

Another time, a staff member was not upgraded, decided to sit in J (my seat).
Crew sent the staff member to economy after a bit of an argument with the staff member.

Clearly not Qantas. You would have been booted.

Which is a good way of having staff travel rights removed permanently.

One bloke in London made the mistake of moving himself 3 times before we'd taken off. Which left me with a very easy solution.

I used to pax a lot, and it was surprising how often you saw people attempt this. Never worked all that well if they took my seat though.

The ultimate self upgrade (if you can call it that) came from a young QF 'management' person, who approved himself and girlfriend to sit in the jumpseats of my (otherwise full) 767. I was outside doing the preflight when they arrived, so FO thought I'd given them a tick. When I got back, and asked who had approved the jump seats (there's only one person who can) he said that he had as he was manager of camel breeding or something similar. I don't recall the words used, but suffice it to say that they both beat a very hasty retreat off the aircraft. If only they'd thought to ask....beforehand.

Can I clarify the story? She tried to grab a J seat but she should have been in Y?
