Seat poacher

My favourite was when there was a real stuff up on J seat allocations which the crew resolved by plonking me in 1A from MEL to LHR. That was a quite a while back and I doubt it would happen today.
Not an allocation stuff-up, but a borked Y seat which wouldn’t stop reclining … can’t recall which US carrier it was, but this happened to Dad’s seat so they bumped Mum & Dad up to a pair of J seats.
Again, doubt it would happen today.
They were especially happy as some foozball team had done some thing or was about to do some thing, and both players & fans were being Very Noisy in Y … actually, seppo foozball players prolly wouldn’t travel Y these days either.

Had an attempted poaching on my flight from Noumea to Sydney yesterday. I am in 1A and 1C is free, I board fairly early and put my bag on the seat of 1C to remove my book before putting the bag in the overhead. Whilst I was doing this a fellow indicated he was in 1A and asked me to move for him. I told him that was my seat - he looked at his boarding pass in his hand which clearly said 1D. He the went and sat there, but kept glancing at me for the next 20 mins or so.

I think he saw me start to get unpacked on the aisle seat and thought it was a chance to nab a window seat. He was watching the entertainment unit in 1D, if he had only known that 1A's entertainment unit was borked! I got a text indicating that which is why they left 1C free in case I wanted to sit there. On my outbound last week 1A was not working (don't know if same aircraft) and QF moved me to 1C without asking but as soon as I saw it at the gate I got them to move me back to 1A.

Saw your post in another thread… was your seat poacher named “Waleed”? 😜

Boarded VA flight last week OOL-SYD to find a lady sitting in my row 4 aisle seat. As I approached and stopped she was about to get up thinking I had middle seat but I said to her that she was in wrong seat and she was surprised but I said it's OK and sat in opposite aisle. Both had vacant middle so I did not care.

As it turns out she was friends with lady in window seat so I think she intentionally sat in wrong seat.

My daughter got back this weekend flying J SQ after month in Europe with her partner. They had the seats they booked and paid for (centre side by side).
A DYKWIA-Famille boarded with two children under 10 (centre seats behind) and both parents either side of kids. Before pater puts a-se on his seat he shouts to the FA he and his wife should be together and my daughter/partner can move.
Aaaah NO - FA firmly said NOT IN BUSINESS YOU DONT.

No surprise pater was constantly roaming the cabin to speak to mater even sitting on my daughters arm-rest to chat 🙁🙁!!
Needless to say FA got involved again and told him to p-ss off (in that polite way) back to his seat. She should have told him to fasten the seatbelt around his mouth
And the kids - apparantly parents ignored them most of the trip…

Those sort of parents usually ignore their children IMHO. And he did ask for his wife and he to sit together,

A couple of weeks ago I was flying SQ PY on the A350 from IST to SIN and had a window bulkhead seat (at additional cost). On take off I had a seatmate (2-3-2) and thought nothing of it.

Then, when the seatbelt sign went off, he moved to the aisle seat in the centre, so I gathered that was his ticketed seat. In any case, it left me with a free seat next to me, which no doubt helped me sleep. As it turned out, on chatting with him, he turnrd out to be a decent guy, and I imagine it was just a mistake.

I’ve inadvertently poached seats a couple of times, but happily moved when asked.

Once though I was asked to move from my window seat on a longish flight to a middle seat to allow a family to sit together. I refused, much to the annoyance of the FA. I then had a nap without a hint of guilt. Probably a bit nasty of me.

I'm sure I would struggle in a middle seat. In fact I know I would struggle in a middle seat and it'd be uncomfortable for anyone either side of me so I would not willingly move to a middle seat unless I got adequate compensation such as free flight.

I swapped on Saturday on my initiative for a “separated”couple

1A to 1F

Cause there was IMG_8648.jpeg

But seriously
I thought planes were taking off over the city as they had while on the drive to the airport and I’d get some good photos but not to be

VA bne-syd this afternoon.

Amazing that some people would rather that you think they don't know the order of the alphabet ("E" on 3+3 is not the window seat?) than simply move!

But was a lovely little flight even in Y...
Pilot found a thin smooth layer between overcast above and below at sunset.
ATC gave us 16L instead of R (saved 5min), slotting in ahead of others I could see on longer final. ATCs, lovely people.

Going on what I heard from the cabin crew, one of the passengers may have finished that task. Boyfriend made a goose of himself before departure. She was embarrassed by his behaviour, and not at all upset about him being left behind.
