I have just gone ahead and booked a Red-e-Deal ticket on QF449 in mid August. I don't usually book the Red-e-Deals however as I am a way off reaching WP this year (with year end August 30th) I saw no point going flexi.

Usually I can select seats as far forward as 25 and very rarely have issues getting 23 or 24 closer to or at check in. I am currently ticketed as 35A and cannot select anything forward for 30 except 30A/B, flight is on a 767-300 Version 3.

Am I stuck this far back due to being a tight cough or some other reason?

Thanks.

QF appear to be blocking out the forward rows for Platinum and Platinum One members up until about the T-80 timeframe (80hrs before departure). I suggest you keep checking, particularly as you get closer to departure time.

Thanks it is interesting though, I have never noticed that and have often been able to select up to about 25 at the time of booking.

Yes, following the threads on this forum, its becoming more and more so the case. Just last week, I was QFF GOLD, on a Fully flexible Y fare - one you would assume entitles you to any seat within the economy cabin, and still couldn't pick the first 6 Y rows, even inside the T-80 time.

Thanks, so just as I earn LTG it's benefits are being even further "enhanced" in to oblivion!

Did some recent transcon sectors in J as a QF Gold. Could only select seats from either of the 2 back rows....

Ticket class has never allowed seat selection for the entire cabin. They have always tiered the cabin so WP have a better selection than SG and so forth.

If you are thinking its "enhanced" your LTG, it actually has because NB PS have much worse seating selection than you.

Platinum is the new Gold
Basically there seems to be an increase in Platinums (me included soon) - thanks double status credits

I just spoke to the contact centre to link a friend on the same flight to sit next to me (He is no status so couldn't select the exit himself) and they stated that whilst is now appears blocked they can generally move gold pax up there if they phone. I was offered 24 or 25 A or K if I wanted it on the phone.

Which is a shame for those of us who have to get there sans double status credits.

I've got a few trips planned and the seating selections are horrible, can't get forward of row 11, while in J, can't get forward of row 3 on a 738/734. What's the point in comp. seating selection if it's that awful?

Las a plat you only get row 2 in J. But at T-80 row one opens up. Same for gold.

If the offer is there we would be crazy not to take advantage of it. 1400 SC's does require quite a bit of travel still so it's not like they're giving Platinum away.

I've found getting good seat allocation as a Gold to not be too difficult actually - T-80 is a great thing

Nick, when l did A330/747, SYD-PER. Last 2 rows only for advanced seat selection.....:(

Something is wrong there.. Never had that issue when I was gold or plat. I can't imagine it was full of plats or WP1's!

It was in business. Still on a large aircraft that sounds strange. Normal for a 737 IME.

Oops missed that.. In that case it's not unusual then...

Perhaps there were others that beat you to the punch.

Wasn't meaning to be rude about the double SC thing, I know it can be a contentious issue around here. I hope you didn't take it that way.

Its marginally irritating though, when last year as an NB and paying $20 for seat selection I could get row 9, and now as an SG the best they can offer me is row 11. Good one Qantas. T-80 is good I concede, but it would be nicer to lock in better seats from time of booking. It's only a problem when I travel on my own though, if I'm travelling with Mum I can access row 4 from the get-go.

I think the problem, though, is that often the business traveller (i.e. the Qantas target market), books later than, say, a liesure traveller. So, the system provides some seating, but doesn't lock out the late booking, high status folk from the forward seats. Any system is going to be a compromise, and I think overall the Qantas system walks that tightrope pretty well.

Sorry to bump an old thread, but I have just reached Gold yesterday from silver and my profile reflects that. However, my seat selection options for all upcoming bookings hasn't changed at all (still only up to row 17 on the 73H). What have other peoples experiences been? Is that system just slow at realising the new status, or will better seat selection only be available on new bookings?
