Seat Selection Denied - VA Codeshare Flight with Singapore Airlines

On a recent SQ flight with a VA flight number, I was unable to select my seat through manage my booking on either carrier.

On one occasion I called SQ, they were able to select seats for me. However on subsequent calls to change my seat, both SQ and VA pointed their fingers at one another, saying that the other carrier should be responsible for seat selection.

This was for a Y booking though. Not sure if it’s different for J.

Thanks for that. Shame they just can't get it together. Any issues with lounge access (for Y class) with VA status?

Lounge access was pretty good at the three ports I’ve used (MEL, SIN, HKG). They just scan your boarding pass with a phone which automatically picks up your eligibility and gives you a green tick (provided your VFF details are on your booking).

Do we know if buying SQ flight via Virgin Aus with a VA flight number on choice or flex fares has got better with regard to seat selection (especially for VA Gold or Platinum). ? I see the cost of flights on the SQ metal with VA flight number remains higher than booking with easy seat selection via SQ! Come in VA and SQ this should not be so difficult should it!!

But usually code-share flights are more expensive and more problematic. This isn't limited to VA, though I agree with the frustrations.

I am starting to think being able to upgrade with points is something like a tale parents tell their kids so they'll behave. Just under 1,000,000 velocity points in my account is an indication of how long I've been trying.

No I've checked into SQ Y with VFF gold in Sydney and been shown straight to the SQ lounge.

How many points? Not that it's useful from PER as SQ don't even have PE on the route with 787 I believe. Might change I guess when a flight or two gets operated by 350 sometime.

I think it was 30k or something each. Not much less than Business but zero availability in that class.

Any further developments recently on VA booking SQ flights with seat selection in all cabins? Probably just as bad as my recent experience with VA flight number on NH metal flying biz. . Hopeless outcome despite best endeavours.

Just expereinced this. But for me VA was cheaper to go BNE to BKK vs SQ direct. Im VA Platinum and booked Choice fares going and Flex return. I only had Window or Aisle preference in the SQ website using the SQ reference.

I saw another thread that said the issue is resolved by adding email to the SQ ref via SQ live chat.

They said they couldnt but then said they could do the seat allocation for me- WINNER!!

I can see all the seats allocated in my booking too.

Summary = contact SQ live chat to do seat allocation.
