Quick question, hopefully. I've booked the mrs a reward ticket on a work flight that I have (therefore 1 revenue and 1 reward ticket, on separate bookings). I was advised by the SG call centre that we can only sit together in the NB seat section, even though she is travelling with me.

I was advised this is only an issue when making separate reservations.

Not the end of the world, but does this seem right?

No the call centre have no idea... I have done it before when I was Gold and also as a Plat... The agent just put in a seat request and linked the booking.. I am not sure the "linking" did anything other than let the agents know we were travelling together

I've also done it as gold; they've had no problem seating us together in seats that I can see that he cant.

I tried a few weeks ago (phone) to get a friend on a separate booking sat next to me in row 3, was told that since the Economy X introduction the system will not permit a separate booking to be allocated an 'Economy X' seat without paying the extra, and can only selected for free if on the same booking as a platinum.

On the day of the flight I asked again, and they did it at check-in without any questions.

Thinking about it, they probably could have allocated us both a non Economy X seat (e.g. in the 'gold' seating zone), but I wanted my extra leg-space :P.

I've been able to request for wife to be seated next to me in row 7. Not sure if daughter has anything to do with the success.

That's certainly my experience. I'm (WP) travelling on a separate booking to my wife (SG) and the best they could do was Row 6 for her while I'm free to choose Row 3. I've left us in different rows, so it will either be sorted out on day of travel or if not I'll let my wife sit in Row 3 while I go to 6.
