As per title, as a VA plat, can I seat select with a VS redemption booking on VA metal (SYD-AUH)?

I assume VS would book you on the VA code? If they do, it should be easy. If they don't, maybe not so much..

How many miles does that use?

Firstly, I had to absolutely laugh at my spelling faux pas in the title (I hadn't even been drinking ).

markis10 - We committed the most cardinal sin of all cardinal FFer sins........we chose Y rather than J . Miles per person was 47000 + AU$83.78 (AU55.00 WY27.18 ZR1.60 ) one way, which I believe is exactly the same as VA redemption rates.

notzac - I have a VS PNR which is clearly not a VA one as it includes numbers and letters, I have a class (x class), I have a flight number (VA 029) and I have the ticket numbers. How can I tell if it was booked on a VA code? I'm assuming we will be able to gain some VA plat benefits like extra luggage, priority security/luggage/boarding etc and lounge access in SYD, but I'd like to try to seat select now.

Like this:

I have a flight number (VA 029)

You should be able to get VS to give you the VA PNR, and you may be able to retrieve that PNR on the VA website. Failing that, once you have the PNR you can call VA. Also remember to get your VFF number in to the booking :)

Much appreciated. I did try getting a VA PNR off VS at time of booking, but they said I'd need to contact VA........which I wasn't hopeful of but hadn't yet tried. I might ring VS back again first and try again that way!

An update to this thread.

I rang VS who was able to promptly give me the VA PNR. I then rang VA who were able to seat select (but unable to do a points upgrade to PE or J.......cheeky if it came off, but no go there). Then came the difficult bit. Which seat? How do I know......3 of us flying, daughter will want a window, exit rows out (as daughter too young to sit there), so I chose 20 A,B,C. My question now is, are we semi-safe there or running a high risk of being booted for a basinet toting family? Also, how close is the bulkhead? Are we in fact better off just in a normal seat where we can slide our feet under the seat in front? Open ended, yes I know but is row 20 OK?

IMO keep row 20. Unsure about being booted for the bassinet, but I reckon it is the best row in economy. No toilet traffic or loitering (like there is in the emergency row), no trolley traffic, generally little traffic at all. Plenty of room to bulk head and 20C doesn't even have the bulkhead so you can pretty much stretch all the way out in that seat. I hope it sticks for you.

Great, thanks for the feedback I was hoping for. Now to pray for no bassinet dwellers!
