I have not been a Velocity member for very long and am currently at Red level, progressing to Silver in the next few months. When I make a booking online I am offered seats in the back half of the plane (73H). I have heard that the higher the status level, the better seat choices are available, e.g. Platinum members will be offered row 3 at time of booking.

Questions: What are the specific seating 'zones' on 73H aircraft offered to the different levels of Velocity membership for seat selection at time of booking? And does it also make a difference whether Saver or Flexi fares are selected? Specifically, if the second question is true, would a Silver member booking a Flexi fare be offered the same seats as a Gold member booking a Saver fare, for example?

I'm fairly certain it's just status, not fare class.

3-6 Plat
7 - 10 Gold

The often open up any unselected forward seats at online check in time (T-24h). I'm often allowed to select row 4/5 as a gold.

Thanks Mike.

Those allocations seemed a bit generous to me at first because whenever myself and +1 fly it is only for leisure and less than a handful of Plats/Golds normally present themselves for priority boarding. I guess a peak hour Mel-Syd flight would probably feature a plane load full of 'em though.

I have also jagged good seats (row 7 or 8) while checking in online the day before, even in the days before we were Velocity members, but as I move up the ranks I am more interested in selecting decent seats while booking and holding them.

I'm Plat and have been in row 4 with row 3 blocked before while a sports group of kids where in row 3 before so even plats don't always get first dibs on row 3. They may have all been Plats but didn't seem so as they were talking about it was the first time they had flown.

during AFL season it sometimes gets blocked for AFL teams, and sometimes it ends up moving the rest of my team up front if I login and do my seat allocation early (VA WP) - not ideal, I left them down the back for a reason ;)

I was upgraded to Silver today. I was able to go back and select new seating options on my existing bookings. Row 9 onwards became available for selection on a couple of E90 flights I have coming up (previously I could only select from row 11).
