Hi All,

Well first post, I've been reading for a while now, have a question for you all.

Basically, I've been morbidly obese for quite some years, Haven't flown for a decade, It's been a goal of mine to fly again, and this goal has been a driving force for my motivation as of late, I've been on the health kick since Jan 2011 and
I would hope Mid March- April I would hope to be in "shape" to fly.

What I'd like advice on is what we be the most comfortable flight option/airline for me, I will be about 120kg and I'm just under 6 foot.

1. I'll be leaving from BNE.
2. I will be flying with a family member, They aren't fat, and they can sit between me and someone else.

This flight really isn't about destination, it's more of an accomplishment reward for me, so looking at the sale fares to places like ROK and the like, with that said probably a flight around 1hr.

I note Virgin don't offer Advanced seating for Saver type fares yet Qantas do, How good would my chances be at getting 2 seats together by web checkin 24 hours before on Virgin?.

Thanks for reading

Hi skyau,

Welcome to AFF and thank you for your courage, openess and honesty.

Enjoy your flight and celebrate your milestone. You deserve it!

First of all good on you and welcome to AFF.Unfortunately I know only too well it is much easier to put on weight than lose it.
Now I am just over 6 foot and weigh 95-105kg-unfortunately usually more to the top of the scale.I dont intrude on others space in economy so I dont think you will find it that bad.
Basically DJ unless you have status lets you choose seats when on line checkin opens at 24 hours-get in then and you are sure to get seats together.
The other option which I find good is Jetstar which will let you choose standard seats at time of booking or pay for seats with more leg room or up front. You can also check a box for automatic on line checkin-they send you an email~ 48 hours before and you print out your boarding pass.
Once again, well done and keep up the good work.

Why not take a flight to PQQ. No need to worry about a 3rd person in the row and relatively short flight

Yes well done mate. Approach the event with positivity and it will all fall into place for you.

Enjoy!

My wife was in your situation around 8 years ago(130 kilos)5'4" .At the time we flew with Qantas and really had no problems so you will do fine. She also went on a good diet and health kick and lost weight as well.Best of luck to you.

Well, Thank you all for your wonderful replies and welcomes, It's certainly appreciated.

Sounds like Virgin will be the go with the 2 seats abreast.

Cheers very much.

Hi skyau,

Welcome to AFF. :D

I actually think that either Qantas or Virgin are appropriate. The real answer will depend upon where, when and the cost of the travel.

Like to add by welcome too:)

Good on you, I'm sure all will be fine.....enjoy your trip.

Thanks for the welcomes,

I would have considered the 2nd seat if I wasn't with a family member and couldn't avoid sitting with a stranger, (I'm rather self conscious and wouldn't subject someone else to unpleasant flight)

I've now booked a flight, travelling on Qantas down to sydney in the last week of March, Both 767 flights, so I can select 2 seats to the side.

Thanks everyone for your help.
