Is selling on ebay any different to FT coupon connection?

Maybe. CC does not allow purchase, only gifts and trades. Ebay are purchases. A grey area in my view.

I have used CC but only to give transferable stuff away (like connexion by boeing discount codes).

There is no grey area with CC; trading eVIPs et al on there is just the same as ebay; the terms of the FF schemes such as AA prohibit the sale or barter of these ; the idea that coupon connection is ok but ebay is not is risible imo. The only difference is that CC on FT is less visible to the world than ebay

If someone is genuinely offering a gift... e.g. unwanted eVIP going for free, then that is entirely within the rules

However if I trade my eVIP for an award flight using your points although there is revenue leakage for the airline there is also a reduction in liabilities as well. So the loss to the airlines is smaller.

Not at all. If you have 8 eVIPs but could only use 4 yourself, then on the 1st March they will expire and become worthless with no cost to AA, unlike miles of course which generally need not expire

Thanks for the reply.

The flight is a Qantas flight (QF74) so presumably it will just be the 3 class cabin - will they have world traveller plus seats? If so this could always be an option. What's the difference and is it worth the extra $$$$?

Is there any way I can ring Qantas and pre-book an exit seat, or is this only for platinum FF?

I think you have your flights mixed up slightly as QF74 is a 3 class config 747 from San Francisco to Sydney.
