Watched it last week. Lookes like a good QF ad. Interesting that the woman who didn't fly that much (actress/muso?) got an upgrade to J. And they left F alone completely.

This was posted on the forum a few days ago. I also noted F not covered. A missed opportunity? Part of me thinks it was a good move to keep the allure / not disturb the actual F pax. But part of me also thinks "our product doesn't stack up with a lot of other airlines' F product so let's not bother".

Having just watched it I can say don't bother. Basically a cobbled together series of footage that looks like it came from the 'Up in the air' series that poorly covers a journey from LHR-DXB-SYD apparently overflying CBR.

I didn't find the passenger's stories particularly compelling. The apparent upgrade to J wasn't explained.

Other people have pointed out various faults thus confirming the poor quality of this show.

I didn't mind it. At least being on Youtube you can skip the boring bits and no ads.

Re: Ready for Take-Off (TV show)

There is a similar show on SBS right now. Not as glossy looking, but the behind the scenes is pretty good.

About to go into crew quarters on A380.

Re: Ready for Take-Off (TV show)

Light on detail, heavy on clumsy attempts to tug the heart strings.

The numbers about cutlery etc were quite interesting (5000 pieces of cutlery for an A380, for instance!): airline logistics is an artform.

Thought it was odd that aside from a few glancing mentions, no coverage or glimpses into first class. Apparently it's fine to bother J pax with a tv crew, but just not those sweet F pax.

Watching the FAs plate up meals was interesting: they do a really good job and I don't know if I've ever stopped to think about this element of the meal service.

I couldn't quite figure out where the entrance to the crew rest area is: somewhere on the lower deck, I presume? And I suppose they don't want to mention it for the obvious reasons.

Also, is it normal for a A380 to have just 3 on the flight deck? For a plane/route of that size, I thought we would have seen more.

It's in front of row 66 on the RHS of the bulkhead.

Nice! I knew some clever clogs here would know. Thank you.

Had a few issues:

It was referred to the "Kangaroo Route". Which isn't. "Kangaroo Route" is LHR - SIN - SYD
They implied it was a single trip from London to Sydney with a stop via Dubai. They would have changed crew, so obviously they stayed in Dubai
There was shot of them leaving the aircraft, in which the aircraft rego was different. (Which implies they did stayover in Dubai)

It was a one off show, not like a Ready for Take Off season. It has also been discussed a few months ago when it aired in the UK (and was put online at that time).

er... "Kangaroo Route" is any route between AU/NZ and UK via the Eastern Hemisphere. The first "Kangaroo Route" in 1947 was SYD-DRW-SIN-CCU-KHI-CAI-TIP-LHR.
Are you suggesting that the old QF flights MEL-HKG-LHR or SYD-BKK-LHR were not "Kangaroo Route" flights?

Re: Ready for Take-Off (TV show)

Thought it was funny the girl who got upgraded to Business Class.
They showed the full unedited boarding pass on screen...
Was on Staff Travel.
No lounge access permitted.

(I suspect must have been family given the claim she had never flown upfront before)

Or more likely, QF already knew who the film crews would be following prior and the pax was given the upgrade for the 'story'.

Either the upgrade, or the original flight, would have been booked by Qantas as 'duty travel' for her.

If they were given some kind of op-up for the show it would be still classed as a commercial booking which would include lounge access.

All staff travel leisure boarding passes will have 'no lounge access' printed in the comments section. Also no freq flyer number on boarding pass which is another indicator.

All the other pax featured flew whY so you would think if they were going to do upgrades then it would be for everyone not just one.

Re: Ready for Take-Off (TV show)

The passengers that were filmed on the flight had won a competition Qantas was running last year in the UK. In exchange for being filmed, Qantas agreed to fly the winners to Australia and back. I recall that the original competition was looking for entrants with interesting stories/reasons for visiting Australia.
