Security screening AFTER the flight?

This time last year CASA introduced the requirement that all people on the tarmac at airports served by RPT flights must hold and display an ASIC card at all times. This was apparantly a move to increase security at regional airports and was done at great expense to people and businesses working in GA and rural aviation. I'm at a loss to understand how this has done anything to increase security at regional airports...

Unfortunatley the simple fact of the matter is screening is too expensive to introduce at all regional airports. While Burnie has been discussed, think about places like Bathurst or Griffith where only one or two flights a day operate. To have security staff manning security equipent for the 15-30 people flying that day is simpy not an economic reality.

I fly Adelaide to Moomba twice a month and we get checked at Adelaide every time. I fail to see what it proves.

As mentioned.. for a passenger terminating at that point, then there is nothing gained, however it allows for easy movement for those transitting. The alternative would be to take the passengers by bus to the arrivals hall and for those connecting to then go through to departures.
