Seeking recommendations for one day In Jakarta

I have one full day and about half a day extra to spend in Jakarta, Any tips on the best things to see for a self guided tour, I am realistic given the traffic that I will only be able to pick a few things to do, so would be interested in any recommendations. Also trying to decide between the Westin, Le Merdidin and JW Marriott, any thoughts on this given my sightseeing ambitions?

Any of the fancy hotels in Jakarta will be fine and they’re all about the same price for getting out and seeing things, but the key thing is what do YOU actually want to see?

If you want a broad intro to Indonesia then you can’t go wrong with heading to Merdeka Square in the centre of the city. There are some (how can I put this) ‘government approved’ dioramas on major elements of the Indonesian nation below (underneath - you might need to line up) Monas that are interesting for bite sized chunks of what has happened and why. Then walk across to the National Museum of Indonesia on the western side of the square and have a look in there for more detail and more comprehensive info on specific Indonesian topics.

In a city of 20 million people there will always be something for everyone’s interests.

I think I might have answered one of Rooflyers threads on this but for a much more unique opportunity, you may want to do a day trip out to Anak Krakatau or the Child of Krakatoa volcano. More expensive and time consuming but can be done as a day trip with pick up from your hotel.

As mentioned by @Scarlett Monas and National Museum are well worth a visit.
Normally a bit of a wait for the ride to the top of the Monas Monument,
Called by Group Numbers. You will have to purchase a Jakarta Tourist Pass (jakcard)
to pay for the entry. Good pass to have as you can also use it on public transport

If you happen to be in Jakarta on a Sunday, it's car free day on Jalan Thamrin.
Join the carnival atmosphere as locals, groups walk march along the throughfare.
Get there early in the morning.

Cafe Batavia for lunch or dinner. Look around Taman Fatahillah.

Experience the fast train to Bandung and back in one day.
Premium Economy will set you back around AUD 25 one way or first class AUD 60.
You will see a bit of the countryside, only at fast speed . Bandung is also a great place to visit,
need more then one day though.
