Seems AMEX AUS now allows downgrade from Personal Platinum Charge to Personal Green Charge/Gold Charge

Wondering if anyone knows the answer to this or if not would like to speculate: assume the annual fee for the platinum will be charged at the end of the current statement period. Ring to downgrade to Green charge card. 1: annual fee will get charged at the lower rate ($160)? 2: does the rest of the account, balance, MR points balance just get moved over? 3: anything I should be aware of if I were to try this?

Hey mate. To downgrade make sure you have reserve card and the card has ascent premium linked with MR - when you downgrade to green the default green wont even enrol to MR(unlike plat which is auto enrolled green card need to manual enrol annually and pay 80 AUD enrol fee. Plus addtional 80 AUD card fee so total 80+80 160AUD)

Balance is auto transfer.

Re AF - I have not been charged yet. Will see. The Plat AF will auto reverse and credit posted in about 2-3 days after downgrade. APP will auto update and apple pay auto update to green

Thanks for this. I don’t have the reserve (or even a platinum at this stage). Do you need the reserve at all to do this downgrade or can it just be done with platinum only downgraded to green? Read between the lines and you may see where I am going with this.

Mate i still suggest a reserve card just in case potential points lose
Yep but the green manual enrol happens after they change your card type so potentially without reserve you may lose your points
Platinum AF will still be charged and reversed after changed to green. Green AF is not charged instantly either i assume after 1 month? 80 AUD MR should charge when you enrol

Can one link the Amex essential rewards card to the platinum charge MR program ? And if one then closes the platinum will all MR points from there transfer to the essential rewards MR program ?

Tried they said cant. Essential rewards is gateway. I assume it can transfer with explorer. Plat is ascent premium(incl qff trf)and standard charge card is ascent

Some 4-5 years back one could link platinum edge ( ascent ) with explorer ( gateway ).
I’m trying to not have to transfer out my MR points when I close my platinum charge . Not so keen on the downgrade

I haven’t attempted it yet as I don’t have the second card yet .
