Hello Everyone,

This may have been noticed/discussed earlier. But when making a booking on QF website, the number of points earned vary depending on if I select "I'm travelling for xx_xx" button in the homepage.

I tried to book onward CBR-SYD-SIN-CMB-MAA and return MAA-BLR-SYD-CBR on the QF website.

When I selected "I'm travelling for xx_xx" on the homepage, the total points earned was 18,200. In this option, there is a saving of $119/pax on Flex Y fare.
When I de-selected "I'm travelling for xx_xx_" on the homepage, the total points earned was 32,400. There is no $ savings in this fare.

However, in the Personal Details page, I was able to provide/remove my ABN which effectively (in my understanding) changes the booking from personal to business nature.

SO my question is, if I made a booking by de-selecting "I'm travelling for xx_xx_x", BUT provided by ABN in the Personal Details page, will I still get the 32,400 points for the pax and whatever points it is for the business minus the $ savings ofcourse?

OR is there a way to make the booking by selecting "I'm travelling for xx_xx", get the $savings & the 18K points and then call QF customer care and "claim" the missing approx 12K points (total amounting to the original 32K points) ? I'm unsure if there is any method to prove that I should've got 32K points instead of the 18K ?

One is taking account of the Platinum status, and one is not.

Canberra->Sydney->Bangkok (if no status)

1,200 points (min points) + 5,200 points = 6,400 points => 12,800 for the return

Canberra->Sydney->Bangkok (if platinum status)

1,200 points (min points) + 5,200 points + 5,200 points Platinum bonus = 12,600 points => 23,200 for the return
Hi I am not really following this nor do I have my own business hence I do not have an ABN. From what I can gather is there a different points earn rate for a point to point paid fare for a business trip as opposed to leisure trip ? Is the fare also different ? What about award seat bookings ? Is there some sort of difference ?

"I'm travelling for xx_xx" button in the homepage.
Dont forget FF earn varies depending on FF Tier status
For example WP earns double FF points than a NB - SYD-SIN in Y WP=7800 whereas NB=3800

So when you don't click the "Im travelling for yourself" it assumes no FF Tier status. That will be adjusted if the passenger has FF Tier status

Apologies for deserting this thread. It was completely unintentional. I somehow missed the notifications for this. My bad folks.

@Quickstatus - thank you for your response and apologies for the delay in my response.

My understanding is as follows (happy to be corrected please) :

1. The "I'm travelling for xx_" - My understanding of this option was that if the "xx_" travelling is linked to a company via QBR, then there will be a $ discount on the Flex fares. Going back to my original post, a CBR-MAA as QF-WP booking WITHOUT selecting "I'm travelling for xx_" returned 32,400 points and a the same CBR-MAA booking made as QF-WP selecting "I'm travelling for xx_" returned approx 18k points.

2. Also the "I'm travelling for xx_" is not related to the traveller FF tier status ... It simply means that this pax who is travelling is travelling for a company that is registered on QBR ... this is my understanding ...

3. When I did eventually made the CBR-MAA booking - I had someone from HBA CC ticket it for me because QF website wouldn't let me book the route I wanted. So when the CC agent made the booking, they were not able to select "I'm travelling for xx_" option or something similar on their end, which could have given me the $ discount on the Flex Y fares. Instead the agent told me that she can only add my ABN to the booking, at which point, the booking becomes a "business trip" but still earns the 32,400 points instead of the 18k points that I'd have earned if I had booked the trip on the QF website by selecting "I'm travelling for xx_" option.

So my questions are -

1. Is there anyway to get the Flex $ discount when selecting "I'm travelling for xx_" and still the "full" 32k QF points ?
2. From what I'm told CC agents cannot select this "I'm travelling for xx_" or it's equivalent when the booking is made by calling the CC (again, IMHO, reinforces the idea that the "I'm travelling for xx_" option is related to the traveller's company's QBR association rather than the traveller's FF tier status)

From what I can gather is there a different points earn rate for a point to point paid fare for a business trip as opposed to leisure trip ?
This is my understanding as well.

There should be no difference in points earn booking through QBR. Points are based on fare bucket and FF status.

Not sure if what you’re seeing has been reported here:

Sounds more likely that there's an error in the booking engine.

When you book for leisure (yourself) – and are logged in – you see a higher earn rate based on your status. Then, when you book for business (select a company) – and are logged in – the booking engine incorrectly shows you the base level points instead of the amount of points you would receive as a tiered member.

Either way, you will earn the same number of points no matter how you book if the tickets are the same, but the website is broken.

As for how you get the discount by calling, can you not call the QBR number and talk to one of their agents to do so? If not, I have no clue.

To me there is clearly a difference in the number of points earned on this flight when flying as personal and business ... this is what I'm trying to explain ...

FWIW, I take no notice of the 'predicted' earn on the booking page as it is incorrect enough to not be of use to me.

I'll do some calculations.

One is taking account of the Platinum status, and one is not.

Canberra->Sydney->Bangkok (if no status)

1,200 points (min points) + 5,200 points = 6,400 points => 12,800 for the return

@oz_mark beat me to it. :)

The calculator shows CBR/SYD in Flex Economy has a base earn of 1200 points, this included minimum point earn.

SYD-BKK earns 5200 base points in Flex. Economy, 10400 for a WP.

No earn for the Thai segments.

Aren't the points/SC showing just the base calculator (red level)? It makes no difference which employee is booked, as only the base points are shown. Have you actually flown a route and seen the result? As I stated on the other thread, when I book, I only see the base points, but after I fly, I am awarded the points due to a WP.

@Ade, good idea to start a separate thread.

Are you able to assist by providing the exact fare buckets for each individual sector for which you earned 18K points as against the same for which you earned 32K points.
Re : TG segments - I have to clarify, I provided the flights with Thai as an example. That was not the route I took.

I don't know where to get the exact fare bucket from. From memory, we can see this in manage booking, but given that the trip is completed, the trip will no longer be listed in the MMB page.

The e-ticket for the trip I took this month is below ; for the below trip ;

1. Booked as QF-WP without selecting "I'm flying for Ade" in the homepage gave 265 SC and 32k ish points
2. when attempted to book as QF-WP AND selecting "I'm flying for Ade" in the homepage gave 265 SC and 18k ish points

Yes, definitely you will receive the higher points due to your status if adding the ABN to your personal booking. The business will definitely receive points as well. I nearly always work this way because the discount rarely appears for the flights I book.

I don't think so ... the points/SC earn shown in the Personal Details page shows all the points and SC one would earn, including any bonus points based on the FF Tier. I say this because, I can confirm that I got the same SC and same points as shown (& confirmed by the HBA agent) into my account once the trip was completed ...

Are you saying that you booked through QBR and the points you saw when booking are the points you received after flying?

(That is, NOT booking personally and adding your ABN.)

Nah, this ticket was booked by HBA CC agent. I did try booking it online from the QF (not QBR) website, but kept throwing (I think the) 7120 error codes after selecting the flight. As part of the booking, the agent was able to add the ABN. I got 32k-ish points when this trip was completed.

Side Note : The agent, however, was not able to offer the $120ish discount I would've have got IF I was able to complete the booking by myself on the QF website by selecting "I'm flying for Ade" option. According to the website, I'd have only got 18k-ish points for this trip, although it's the exact same trip and the ONLY difference is selecting the "I'm flying for Ade" option in the QF website homepage.
