Self Accommodation on QF Points Booking

Will QF automatically release award seats to allow self accomodation in event of change in original award booking?
Who is making the change? You or the airline? If the former, generally no, you need to find classic availability. If the latter (and that would include things like schedule changes and cancellations), yes they will particularly if they operate a flight to the destination you are travelling.

And if a revenue seat is available, will QF convert it to Classic award to facilitate the self accomodation rebooking
Yes this is exactly how the self accomodation system works. It will allow you to select from flights where only revenue seats are available even if it was Classic Reward booking.

I've used the new tool a few times now and it works brilliantly. It's a genuine improvement and way better than what existed before. Well done to Qantas for investing in useful technology to improve the customer experience.

For the record I've just seen the VA version - QR award booked through VA.

Absolutely terrible. VA website doesn't even show flight numbers for my booking, just the departure of my first flight and landing of my last flight. Also now it's showing up as two stops (it's SIN-DOH-AUH), but I think because of the alternative DOH-AUH flight it's counting it as a third.

I got an email from QR (no email from VA yet) saying there are changes - no options or alternatives, not even take it or leave it, just changed (DOH layover has gone from around 1:45 to 7 hours).

And the change hasn't been ticketed by VA yet (been 24+ hours now). CMT has a ticket number for the SIN-DOH leg (which had a time change), but nothing on the DOH-AUH (alternative flight needed due to the misconnect). This will be fun.

Would Jetstar count as a ‘partner airline’ in this scenario? Have a classic rewards JQ fare later in the year (in combo with QF Dom J to connect to JQ J). Inevitable JQ schedule change would be nice to have this option

And even after you've changed, nothing stopping you calling to change again. Did that last week on a syd-sfo-san flight. But was told "this is the last time!"

Edit, oops disregard, that for a velocity/UA booking and all change requests were by phone

This seems like a much more flexible and generous solution than what the call centre agents can accommodate - has there been a change in policy to rebook cancelled award tickets into any available revenue fare?

I expect "available" is subjective.

I saw this and tried it with a flight from Perth to Hobart. The direct was changed from afternoon to nearly midnight for October 23. The alternatives offered were certainly a few but involved a night stop. Interestingly when looking at the schedule available for booking the lunchtime flight to MEL to connect with a late evening but same day arrival into HBA was available to buy but strangely enough not available for the alternative to the flights we were offered. So do I believe QF are showing all available flights as alternatives? Probably not! Go with caution.

I had a notice of flight disruption and used this tool - thought it was pretty good. Allowed me to do everything I would normally have to ring up and request.
We had an equipment change from a 717 with J to 717 without on our inbound to HBA and outbound from LST. These are our options (other than accepting Y) - not sure if this is only because I'm trying from phone, but options were previously the same on PC:
