Self-entry machines at The Lounge

Tried OOL this morning. Not on line yet! But it looks good. I'm just wondering how the angels will police No. of guests. As gold, I could enter 1 guest (my allowance), but then parade three in. Unless the angels know me, they wouldn't know if I was gold or plat.
I suspect there's an interface to the reader at the Angels' service desk.

Used the MEL one on Sat. Waved my card over the barcode reader...press for no of guests and enter. There were still 2 lounge angels over at the desk watching and smiling

Lets keep this hush hush.............

but I think the machines will give 'you know what access' - I'll try 9 days later.

I tried the SYD domestic lounge pole on Sunday before my flight, I had already OLCI earlier and the barcode scanner wouldn't read my older (Sept 2011) Silver card at all, before I could try the swipe magnetic strip a Lounge Agent came to help me and did it at his desk. He then tried a few things at the pole with my card (possibly including the magnetic strip) but wouldn't seem to work for him, he mentioned that it may be for gold and Plat cards only but I suspect its either the old cards, rollout of Sabre or my silver status that explains why the totem pole rejected my card.....

Clue: Have a close look at the photo on the first post of this thread to see what sort of cards the machine is expecting to read.

I would think that for a silver member, they would need to deduct a pass from your balance. Maybe the machines aren't set up for that!

The silver cards are also used by silver status full lounge members at the moment. The first pic shows a lounge member card which no one has shed any light on just yet so it may mean lounge members will soon get a separate membership card or that lounge membercard is for lifetime lounge members.........or both perhaps.

Either way, it seems the silver card won't be accepted at the totem pole.

You are correct - I am a fully paid up Lounge member but am only Silver status at the moment, I didn't get a separate Lounge card given to me and have always used my Silver velocity card as entry to DJ lounges.

Whats this "you know what access"?
Can you use the Myki? ha ha ha ha
Does it work for LOUNGE(YEARLY) card....and do guests get in for free too?

I used the machine today for ATA - swiped the card, and then at the top right corner of the screen was a little spinner, which wouldn't let me select the number of guests until it had done a full lap... not exactly sure what it was doing, but touching '0' lead straight to a screen saying ~"Thanks for choosing Virgin Australia". Will be interesting to see what the machines do after the 15th and before the move to Sabre! :p

saw similar in the Koro Lounge at BNE and WLG but was told that they were not working when I tried to swipe the tribe in.

The WLG machine was working OK in April.

Both MEL and AKL International NZ Business class lounge machines worked fine for me a few weeks ago.

Late last year the attendant had to manually let me into the AKL domestic Koru lounge ("Oh, one of those" was what he said upon seeing my DJ plat card). May have changed now.
