Sending parcel to UK

So my SIL posted me a parcel from Devon UK yesterday, and I posted one to her yesterday - we will see which postal service wins the race !!

So the tracking for my parcel to the UK has kicked in =

Received by Australia Post Wed 26 Aug • 11:55am

Cleared and awaiting international departure BRISBANE QLD Thu 27 Aug • 1:06pm

No further tracking - so it is still in Brissy !

I ordered items from a UK retailer on 4 August. Dispatched 5 August and is still showing at Heathrow Worldwide Delivery Centre after a bit over 3 weeks.

Giving up hope I’ll ever see the items. Especially since a book bought from Book Depository was dispatched on 22 June and still hasn’t arrived.

Sending postcards overseas, they seem to take about 4 weeks to Europe and 3 to the US.

My parcel to my SIL is still sitting in Brisbane and her parcel to me is doing the same in Heathrow ! ☹

A very good chance it is still in Brisbane but I wouldn’t take much notice of the tracking system currently as a lot of it is being “bypassed” so to speak

I wouldn't read too much into that, I had that with a parcel coming from Melbourne and then magically one day it was just delivered. The day before it hit my door step it still said it was sitting in Melbourne....... what a great tracking system, NOT!

It’s a great tracking system when it’s implemented. From time to time for various reasons it is disabled or bypassed.
Don’t forget that APG staff have a different IT platform than customers and will be able to source the item or see where it is

Not always !! AP have "lost" my last 3 returns to Ezibuy ! Even got to paying me out for one - but it turned up 8 weeks later, so now if a return gets "lost" I just email Ezibuy and they deal with AP ! Redbank ( Brissy mail centre) is obviously a big problem

I was posted an express international pouch from Perth on the 6th of August and arrived to me in the UK on the 25th.

Another package coming from NSW was posted on the 3rd which hasn't arrived yet and the last Auspost update is from the 11th 'Cleared by air carrier' no updates since.

Both parcels have had multiple entries which state cleared and awaiting international departure which I interpret as once a plane going in the right direction has non-priority load capacity then it'll go.

I'd allow for at a minimum of 3 weeks from postage. If you're in a hurry then DHL or TNT are the way to go which will take 5-7 days. You can book with DHL online but be prepared to pay over $100. As a reference the international express pouch I received cost $47 to ship

My second package arrived on the 28th

First package - Perth to Cardiff with Auspost express international pouch. 19 days and was flagged for import duties - £27 to clear

Second package - Sydney to Cardiff with Auspost express in a box. 25 days and no import duties.

I posted something to London on Friday last week and was told 7-14 days...
Today my sister in London received what I sent on 14 August...

An update:

I bought something from a UK eBay seller on 15 June, a week before the Book Depository purchase. It was delivered on Tuesday 1 September after 77 days in transit.

Wow! Sounds like it might have gone by sea with that sort of a transit time. Maybe the lack of flights was so severe that postage services had no choice but to clear backlogs via the high seas...

A few years ago I posted some items from London to my address in Australia.

When I returned to Australia 6 weeks later the parcel from the UK had not yet arrived.

I just heard along the grapevine, so not sure how true it is, that Christmas parcels and mail will be sent out of AUS via sea unless express post is used.

Wow, sounds very retro. Back to the postal transport methods used when I was in high school.

So my SIL in Devon UK got my parcel delivered today. Her parcel to me has been sitting in a Sydney Aust Post "facility" since Saturday 5/09 !! 😩
