Severe sinus pain on descent - tips please.

Have had severe pain on descent for years, and kept losing the Earplanes plugs, draining the Fess saline spray, chewing the gum and still having problems.

Recently had the Avamys/Nasonex prescribed by the ENT surgeon, and now seem to get mild blockage only, and no more pain. Been spraying daily, but at least do not have to take the spray on board.

The effects seem to take a while, so he needs to start weeks before you fly.

And despite claims to the contrary, these sprays don't seem to cure snoring or hay fever.

Depends on the main symptoms of the hay fever and cause of the snoring, but many people get great hay fever results from them for this. Never thought about using them for snoring though.

I'm with one of the other guys on it sometimes being related to your ears.
i too suffer from this all the time and an an avid sufferer of hay fever.

In feb took a SYD to bne flight to see the folks. Had huge pains on landing. While I was in bne I got my ears cleaned with these ear candles. My parents swear by them. They are basically long wax tubes that look like giant straws, you light them stick them in your ear till they widdle down and the wax in your ear comes out.
any way on my way back to SYD I didn't have any issues at all with the flight. Also my hay fever wasnt so bad.

I hold my nose and blow (gently) probably 10 times or so each descent. I have always had issues with equalization but this works for me.

Sorry to sound like a cheesy american commercial, but I suffered through severe hayfever for years until Avamys. Love it! I only use it coming up to autumn (when it is normally bad).

The only problem with Nasonex is it's pretty expensive. $50 a pop. I have an ongoing prescription for it as I have had sinus surgery.

Your private health may cover some of the cost, if you have it. Take in the receipts or call to check. I think omnaris is one of the cheapest and I personally (never having used any) think they're all much of a muchness, so maybe see if your gp is willing to try another one?

Cheesey American commercial accepted. Good information thnxs !!

I also use ear candles with very good success with ear pain.
Their is also a Ayurvedic treatment available called Nasyam whereby the practitioner uses a blend of oil and herbs to cleanse the sinus passages.
