Greetings fellow fliers. I have QF74 15/6, and wondering what lounges are available in SFO. Currently it would appear that both JAL and AF/KLM are still closed doors. Anyone have any knowledge yet? I believe the SFO service starts today or tomorrow.

The CX lounge - if open - is the one to head for but pre-Covid they were funny about letting non CX PAX in (there’s a dedicated thread in the topic) but I had no problem getting in back then.

Technically, AA and AS are also both in play as OW lounges but they’ll be a little bit of a schlep to the international departure gates but will be open.

So here’s my answer. AA Lounge in B gates opposite B13. Unlucky for some, this is a domestic Admirals Club lounge with limited house options and the ability to pay for premium services ie food and beverages. All that, and it’s only a 20 minute struggle back to A gates for your Qantas flight …. assuming it hasn’t been “rescheduled “.

CX has just announced that their YVR lounge has reopened. Hopefully SFO follows suit soon.

Purely anecdotal but when asking the SFO airport staff about the Cathay lounge when flying out at the weekend, they suggested that it is unlikely it will be reopened in the short term. Hope it is not the case, as the lounge situation definitely has not improved at SFO. None of the OneWorld lounges (other than the domestic AA lounge) are open at the Qantas departure time and the AA lounge is barely worth the walk back to Terminal 1. Given the prices Qantas are charging for their flights these days, the offering really should include appropriate lounge access at locations like this.

Strange, no one else has commented on this thread for a while.

The QF website mentions AA lounge (whether that’s practical or not)?

The Oneworld website lounge finder appears to be silent on QF lounge access but does now relists the CX lounge. I’d be making a b-line to CX or BA (if open). The AF lounge apparently had a good makeover, so should’’t be as awful as others reported (I’ve never tried it).

I did read the other day that a new airside connector is opening soon, so AS and AA would be in play for airside access. Still probably a bit of a hike?

Oddly if you click that link which says Admirals Club, the page it opens up actually says Air France/KLM lounge, so that seems to be the official one. Even the URL says American Airlines but the page itself is AF/KL: https://www.qantas.com/au/en/qantas-experience/at-the-airport/airport-lounges/all-qantas-airport-lounges/airport-lounge-locations.html/sfo/american airlines admirals club.html

I didn’t click through! But, I guess QF was using the AF lounge previously.

Pretty sure I read something that QF would be using CX after resuming SYD-SFO, which restarted some months ago now. So, again surprised we haven’t heard from anyone who’s actually flown SFO-SYD in the last 6 mths or more?

I thought I read JL closed the SFO lounge and use BA.

SF is a city in a world of pain still sadly, what a mess.

Possibly. JL lounge isn’t listed on the OW page anymore nor does it mention which lounge JL uses.

The problem with BA (now and in the past) is that it’s usually closed well before QF departs.

A friend is in J on QF74 tonight (which is why I was asking). CX lounge apparently closed for another renovation.

He has just confirmed QF directed him to the AF/KL lounge. He's impressed - apparently very high quality and extensive buffet on offer, plus vintage 2016 Boisset champage and NV Lanson rose. Sounds like you could do much worse!

I was there about a month ago - very nice lounge, small, but nicely done up.

I'll be flying SFO/SYD with QF in July, so I'll let you know what lounge I will use ( I have a four or five hour lay over) I that been decades since I've flown in or our of SFO International.

Flying SFO-LAX domestic connection on AA (connecting to QF 94 LAX-MEL).

What's the best lounge option for me in SFO?

The AS lounge in the Harvey Milk Terminal is *brand* new and very shiny. I had a flying visit through there first thing in the morning a couple of weeks ago, and by US domestic lounge standards it was very nice.

Thanks for the heads up, will pay a visit.
