QF needs to buy more 787s.
Qantas needed to buy more many things, several years ago.

But here we are.

Nice that SYD-SFO finally resumed after multiple false starts, but I wouldn't hold my breath for MEL to come back anytime soon.

I’d not be surprised if the JQ788s get repainted red and white once they go for major maintenance (C/D checks) and as the A321s come on stream for JQi.
There might be some issues there. In order to get the A321XLRs certified, the EU wants Airbus to make some adjustments to the extra fuel tanks, which are going to drop the range by ~200NMs.

Bumping my own post.

Desperate for this route to recommence.

Apparently the SYD route is doing well…

Any insiders with knowledge?

Waiting in hope :)

Hallway gossip only; QFi “really” want to restart Mel but will probably increase Syd/Sfo first (which by all reports is doing very well, especially in premium cabins).

last few times i have flown or people i know have flown, Y has been probably < 75% loaded but premium cabins full...but yeah hope they increase to daily...esp with united going double daily in the Aussie summer...also hope the cathay lounge opens soon as people are being sent to a very sad AA admirals club...not even the previously sad but now new AF lounge which they use to use pre pandemic

Tonight’s QF73 looks chockers in whY according to EF.

CX lounge reopens next week.

only opening at 9pm unfortunately...barely enough time for QF74 :(
Oh, yes the current evening CX scheduled departure is 1am. From memory, it used to open around 6 or 7pm Precovid.…

Wasn't QF at one point using the Air France lounge at SFO? It's been recently renovated and like a solid option.

Thank you.

Yes we are finding Syd/Sfo very full on QF (we send a lot of people there as well) and would really like to see frequency expanded and MEL re-added. Oh well, we all wait in hope.

QF needs to buy more 787s.
When Qantas Group first ordered 787s in 2004, they ordered 115 787s with 65 firm orders and the rest a mix of options (20) and rights (30).

In 2009, 15 firm orders were cancelled. In 2012 another 35 were cancelled, leaving 15 orders.

11 of those remaining orders were taken as 787-8s for JQ. Another 1 was cancelled and the remaining 3 converted to the first QF 787-9s with 5 of the options firmed. Qantas then converted another 6 options into firm orders, which have now all arrived.

Thus, of the original order, 51 have been cancelled, 11 have arrived for JQ and 14 have arrived for QF.
There should still be 9 options and 30 rights available.

The AF lounge was never much good from what I heard.

But it has had a massive refurb
Yes. I was thinking more about the rather ordinary offerings at the time, according to some reviews, rather than the furnishings, etc. Anyway, good to hear that it’s been spruced-up

I thought that the CX lounge food was pretty good when I was there a few years ago. I never bothered with the AF lounge at the time
