Are LifeMiles worth AU2¢ each?

Get more miles for your next trip!

Ask a family or friend to transfer miles to your account. For every LM 1,000 they transfer, you will get a bonus of LM 1,250

Promotion valid from March 26th until April 3rd, 2019.

A fee of USD 15.00 + taxes for every LM 1,000 transferred between accounts applies; the member who transferred the miles will pay the fee.
'Taxes' are zero for AU

Two accounts:

So, take 1K and have 2.25K for USD$15
Back for 4.5K @USD30 (.25)
Back again for 9K @USD60 [.5]
... 20.25K @USD180
....

Are they worth AU2c, well yes but don't the regular buy miles at 140% offer slightly better value?

Share 1K @USD15 becomes 2.25K (~AUD21), so buying 1.25K @ 1.7¢ per point

Buy 1k @USD33 becomes 2.4K (@~AUD47), so buying 2.4K @ 1.97¢ per point

Thanks for the calculations, I was working on USD 1.4c per point which is indeed around 1.97 and comparing to your quoted 2c but at 1.7c that's a definite sweet spot!

at 1.2c (USD) per mile , probably the cheapest so far?

I will be getting some.

Reminds me of the old US Airways share promos where you’d setup a ponzi scheme of members getting you the cheapest cpm.

i was confused by a comment on OneMileatatime which stated that reciprocal transfers can be made between the two same accounts. They gave the example of A->B->C->A being allowed (but not A->B->A). But no one else commented on the accuracy of that.

I was wondering the same thing so went to Flyertalk and some people said it was possible to do A to B to A. There were errors but ended up successful. There were a few people reporting on Avianca forum.

I wonder why the restriction? I couldn't seem to see it anywhere in the terms and conditions. Maybe make the transfer A->B and then wait a few days for B->C.

I think it's just their IT issue based on what people reported. I think one person said he had no issue when using different browser/internet. One said it was successful after logging out and seeing some errors etc. Could be cookie, session, IP etc

I just had a look at some of the comments. It sounds like it is one person trying to do the back and forth between accounts they are connected with or control (multiple accounts). I'm planning on doing a 'proper' transfer between two unrelated people (friends) with separate accounts, addresses and credit cards. Hopefully might be ok.

Please advise on outcome, I'm interested though what I want to do is with my wife. Different surname, same address.

I just did A-B-A without using any workarounds.(33K out and 74K++ back)
Yes, it came up with errors a couple of times, but I just rinsed and repeated and all done in a few minutes.

I just did A-B-A as using 2 different browsers without connecting to VPN. Worked fine. When doing B-A, the site showed an error at the end but credit card was charged and points were transferred instantly.

I also used the same credit card for both my and my partner's accounts as I wanted to use Amex US for 5x point. Hope that won't cause any issue in the future.

If you would like to transfer back and forth, choose number of miles correctly so you don't have any leftover as you can only transfer in a block of 1000.

Same, transfered 110 points in total so added enough for my next adventure. May bump this up by another 40K in next few days so myself and wife maximise the benefit.

You can pay in COP or USD. If the COP is dropping in value, you can shave a little more off the cost by paying in COP, depending on what you credit card issuer decides to do. The rate may end up being worse by the time the transaction is processed too.
