Shaving cream

Went into a normal supermarket in Germany last year and they had a whole section full of everything in travel sizes.

I've seen the same at my local Woolies.
The prices are pretty outrageous though so I only buy travel sized aerosols ( no shaving cream though ) and fill travel bottles with shampoo, shower gel etc.

Our woolies selection seems fairly limited - only brand of mens anti perspirant (a few more brands of deodorant).

I pack a compact brush and whatever puck of shave soap I feel like at the time, no liquids or gels to worrie about

MH duty free had a great L'Oreal men's travel kit a while back for quite cheap.

Was the best shaving cream for both travel and at home, however I have not seen the type full stop:-(

Somersets shaving oil is all natural oils. Tiny bottle, pleasant 'herbal' fragrance, easy shave, good stuff.

I use the Gilette mini shaving gel aerosol. Doesn't take up much room in my carry on and easily stores in a side pocket so I can put it on the tray for the security man.

Here's a question - can we claim 'travel sized' toiletries as a travel expense on our taxes?

I don't like the Gillette foam - I find it a bit thin so use Proraso.

Definitely another first world problem, but In the interests of science I have trialled the Gilette foam and the KOS oil this week.
Verdict:
The oil gives smoother shave. Definitely less 'scrapy.' Also the oil seems to rinse off better.
However:
The oil and bristles clog up the razor and are difficult to rinse off. The foam leaves the razor like new.

My decision: I'll stick with the oil as it's non aerosol and thus easier at security. Nevertheless, both are much better than the bar of cheap soap used as shampoo and shaving cream!

This is going to sound a bit weird, but I don't like shaves that are too close. The oil is effective, but it shaves almost too close, leaving my face feeling like it's gone through a clothes dryer.

For me I can't go past American Crew Shaving Oil... It is quite expensive (~$25) but worth every cent. Lasts me about 6 months. I never feel "dry" or anything like that. You do need a bit or shower pressure but even with our pathetic pressure at home, it's quite good.

Do yourself a favour and check it out. As for the leakage side of things, I've never had one leak yet, but i put everything into a ziplock bag anyway so it's not too much of a problem.

I now use Schick Shave Gel in a 75ml can. As well as convenient it's also anti-irritation and quite soothing.

I rather like the Gel's - much better than the foams/creams.

Might have to try the Shave Oil out some time...

Just got back from the US last Thursday & I found most chemists/drugstores like CVS/Long's/Walgreen's have a dedicated aisle that will say 'travel/trial size' products so being an absolute fiend for that kind of stuff had a lot of fun stocking up.

They had a couple of brands of shaving cream suitable for carryon luggage that complies with TSA requirements.

Some nutter wandering around Walgreens (Ala Moana store) with a ukulele gave us the rundown of how wonderful a brand of talcum powder was "this is what kids call the bomb". Would like to see the reaction of the friendly TSA officer in that situation.

yeah i noticed that range as well. they seem to be more travel orientated than us, especially TSA requirements which i thought were way over the top, and i was in the F queue and it took forever.
